Josh, Andy and Kaitlyn were out in the cow pasture today feeding sweet corn husks from the discard bin down at the store. A lot of our produce waste is fed up at the farm! This also gives Kaitlyn a perfect opportunity to check our herd closely for signs of pinkeye and other contagious diseases that involve a close-up examination. Friendly PSA that the husk bin at the store is for corn husks ONLYour cows don’t really enjoy eating discarded coffee cups, used chewing gum or fast food wrappers, but we’ve picked all of these and more out of that bin this summer. If you need an actual trash can, don’t be afraid to ask our friendly staff and let our cattle eat their corn husks with confidence!

Have you been shopping the lovely sunflowers we are carrying in the farmstand? Here's some information on the field they're coming from, and how you can use this location for a photo opportunity with the whole family! NOTE: this is not our farm or our field, so we can't answer your questions -- please direct questions to the original poster or post, not this page. Thanks!

Sunrise or sunset? We’ll let you decide.

Peterson Farm 10.07.2020

Every year there’s an unspoken agreement in the herd that one cow will serve as the babysitter. She hangs out with the calves and ruminates while everyone else grazes. This year, that gracious lady is H23 aka Honey. You’re doing good work, Honey.

Peterson Farm 25.05.2020

A year and two days ago, we picked a string of deflating balloons out of a hayfield, did a little post on our Facebook page asking people to consider what happens to their balloons when they "escape" or are intentionally released, and then stood back as the post went unexpectedly viral. Largely the response was supportive: when balloons are released or escape, they drift and eventually come down in our oceans, our forests, and often, our agricultural fields. Litter is a globa...l problem, but when deflated balloons and strings end up baled in our hay tangled in the dense grass, they can cause a painful death for our livestock. Most of the commenters and many shares were in a similar vein: we need to do better as stewards of our land and sea. But one thing that really saddened us was the number of commenters who claimed to be the farmer's ally, absolutely piling on one poor individual who asked an innocent question, seeking to gain more knowledge. The screenshot comments below are relatively mild compared to some of the vitriol left on that post. We believe one of the most important things we can do -- besides steward our land, care for our animals and feed our local community -- is advocate for farms and farmers. We hope you will join us. But we hope you will advocate for farms and farmers in a supportive and empowering way. Seek to educate those who come seeking knowledge. How does name calling, insulting and being downright rude encourage anyone to want to ask any more questions or think about things from a new perspective? Join us as we advocate for farms and farmers and educate the public. But please -- join us in a positive way. It's possible to spread knowledge AND be kind.
