With EPA restrictions on new wood stoves it becomes so much more important to burn dry, seasoned firewood. Otherwise you run the risk of poor draft, increased maintenance and chimney fires.

Your Monday October 19, 2020 heating education! Did you KNOW pellet types and SIZES MATTER?!?! Here's a snippet of an owners manual.. Along with sizes of pellets that were ALL in the same bag! Keep in mind this was a bag of HARD WOOD pellets as well.. Can you see how this would make a difference? ... If you are unsure... Check Your owners manual for suggested types and sizes.. Burning Pellets is NOT like burning WOOD in a wood stove! If you're wondering if the stove and/or auger are good or bad... It may have something to do with the fuel! Black windows, a lot of buildup in the burn pot, clinkers, a lot of ash.. Can all be a cause of the fuel you are using! (Among other things) HOW do you know its a good pellet for YOUR STOVE?? A good rule of thumb is.. Fill a hopper with 1 kind of pellet, burn on your usual feed rate and temperature until it's gone, keep track of how it ran, heat output and cleanliness of the stove.. Clean everything, then fill the hopper with a different kind, burn at the same feed rate and temperature..again evaluate all things. You may have to try a few kinds based on the brand of stove, venting configuration, elevation etc. Hope this helps!
