Each year Pinelawn Memorial Park offers families the opportunity to adorn the plots, crypts and niches of their loved ones with fresh evergreen holiday decorations. These traditional decorations honor the memory of those we lost and bring the holiday spirit to the park. At the end of the Holiday Season, the decorations will be recycled into compost, which will be used throughout the property to enrich the soil and nourish trees and shrubs. On October 26th and 27th, we held a candlelight vigil to honor the memory of the loved ones lost. Attendees were able to reflect peacefully as their loved one's name was read aloud amongst the beautiful setting of our Louis Natalie Mall, surrounded by the brilliant colors of fall, the gentle glow of string lights, and the calming sounds of live string music in the background. Due to current restrictions on gatherings, we were not able to accommodate as many people as we would... have liked to. However, we plan to have a second candlelight vigil in the spring to ensure more families have the opportunity to honor their loved one's memory, so please lookout for more information. At Pinelawn, it has always been important that we remain an active part of our community. To uphold this value, we recently sponsored a free book giveaway at the Milton L Olive Middle School in Wyandanch. Our donation allowed for The Book Fairies, a not-for-profit organization that collects reading materials for people in need throughout metropolitan New York, to donate 2,513 new, high-interest books impacting 950 middle school students. The students were able to self-select ...their books from many popular book titles. Additionally, last year we hosted a book drive and donated 13 cases of books.
