Summer time came early at The Pines at Glens Falls today! Staff dressed in summer or Hawaiian attire, residents were treated to frozen daiquiris (mocktails), as well as beach ball and pool noodle fun! Today was our last day of celebrating - Together Through The Seasons for National Skilled Nursing Care Week - at The Pines. It was Spirit Day , so there were various Pines at Glens Falls, blue, gray and white garb throughout the building, plus an extra dose of spirit within the staff Optum surprised employees with coffee and doughnuts to start out the morning.. Residents tested their luck with a little bit of bingo. . Burgers and hot dogs were grilled to perfection and served with various sides for an extra mealtime treat for staff. Meanwhile, the residents made a toast during their afternoon refreshment cart with a glass of champagne to celebrate new beginnings! There were smiles all day long (behind the masks)! . It was a great day to be TOGETHER!

Residents at The Pines at Glens Falls for Nursing & Rehabilitation Enjoy a Virtual Concert Hosted by Historic Caffè Lena Residents at The Pines at Glens Falls moved and sang along to their favorite songs during a virtual concert hosted by the historic Caffè Lena in Saratoga Springs, and performed by the celebrated musical group, The Lustre Kings. This collaboration was formed as part of The Pines’ ongoing effort to engage residents and further enhance their quality of life du...ring the pandemic. While we continue to remain vigilant by following all health and safety precautions, we also know that everyone could use a little extra joy, said Chris Alexander, administrator at The Pines at Glens Falls for Nursing and Rehabilitation. We were excited to see the residents come alive as the band played beloved songs. The rich playlist was hand-selected by resident music lovers and featured hit songs by artists such as Elvis Presley, George Jones and Merle Haggard. The iconic soundtrack, with fitting dedications from the band, evoked fond memories and transported residents back in time. Upon viewing the virtual concert, Joanna Marine, a 99-year old resident at The Pines at Glens Falls for Nursing and Rehabilitation, recalled visiting Caffè Lena. "Listening to that kind of music reminds me of the old days when I used to go to Caffè Lena every Friday night to enjoy live music with my husband and our good friends Newt and Muriel. Newt played the guitar in his spare time and every once in a while, the performers would let him jump on stage and play with them," said Joanna Marine. The team at Caffè Lena captured the virtual concert using remote broadcast cameras in their listening room. We love to put on concerts in our room, but sending music out into the world through our virtual concert series during this pandemic has been a gift, said Sarah Craig, executive director of Caffè Lena. The world is throwing so much at us right now. Everything is different; nothing is predictable. It is all hard. Music is here to get us through the hard times. It has the power to both connect people and to heal. It’s been some time since our last On The Road show, but it feels nice to share virtual music with the people that need it, added a member of The Lustre Kings. Today was the day! The residents, patients and staff received their first round of the vaccines to fight COVID-19. The line for staff flowed steadily, the vaccines administered to the residents/patients went quickly & smoothly and the professionals that came today were a pleasure.
