Today marks the one year anniversary of The Never Forget the Heroes Act, legislation that provides permanent funding to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). It also marks one year left for certain 9/11 victims and their loved ones to timely register with the VCF, the deadline is July 29, 2021. If you or a loved one were in Lower Manhattan between 9/11/2001 and 7/31/2002 you may be entitled to compensation. The honorees’ heroic efforts have ensured thousands of responders, survivors, and their families receive the justice and healthcare they deserve. Thousands of first responders, students, and blue- and white-collar workers who call Staten Island home were exposed to dangerous levels of cancer-causing toxins in Lower Manhattan and at the Fresh Kills Landfill in the days and months after 9/11/01. As part of our ongoing mission to inform the Staten Island community about the benefits available to victims and their families under the Never Forget the Heroes Act, we invited the public to our Town Hall Discussion: The Impact ...of 9/11 on Staten Island at St. John’s University’s Staten Island campus. Thanks to @stjohnssi for hosting and special guest @maxrose4ny for opening the event by explaining the significance of the historic, bipartisan Never Forget the Heroes Act that he successfully championed in Congress. The panel consisted of @pittabaione Founding Partners and St. John’s alumni: @cjbaione and Matthew J. Baione, and @pittabaione Senior Advisors: former FDNY Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano and former Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro. Founding Partner @vitopitta introduced Max Rose. 18 years ago this morning nearly 3,000 victims left their homes never to return. We will #neverforget the lives lost that day. We will never stop fighting for those who have since passed and those who are still suffering due to the toxic exposure caused by the attacks.

As we approach the 18th anniversary of September 11th, Pitta & Baione LLP was happy to support Friends of Postcards in this day of service.
