Welcome to the Spring 2021 semester! We can’t wait to see what you will accomplish this term

#PeopleofPlaza: Ms. Hernandez is a student in the Medical Assisting Program and currently in her second semester. Her inspiration to pursue the Medical Assisting major came from her grandmother (who worked at Elmhurst Hospital for over 25 years) and her mother in law (who currently works at Cohen Children’s Medical Center at Northwell Health). Ms. Hernandez and her family have been consistent supporters of the Northwell Health community attending the annual five mile fundrai...sing walk at Jones Beach for many years. I’ve also been doing the Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer walk after witnessing both my parents go through cancer. When my grandma was diagnosed with diabetes I was giving her insulin and helping her with medical treatments. It was then when my husband suggested I should attend school for this. Dr. Zhou shares, Ms. Hernandez was my previous student in the clinical class of the Medical Assisting Program. She was excellent in her professionalism and dedicated to her studies. #PeopleofPlaza: Cassandra S.'s realization that Plaza College's Career Pathways Program would be a great opportunity for her was only the first of many proven successes in her college journey. She not only earned her High School Equivalency diploma and Associate's degree, she graduated from Plaza with her Bachelor's degree as well. Now, as a soon-to-be MBA graduate, she tells us of her journey. "Plaza College gave me an opportunity that I am thankful for. I started getting... better at a lot of things, I started growing, I started seeing new opportunities and I started thinking differently. I am an entrepreneur, resilient, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a woman that has been underestimated and put down in every means. There's more to my story but that will be later in a book. I'm proud of myself, I will be an MBA graduate this year. I am also working on a couple of businesses, my business license, driver's and more. Setting a foundation for my babies. I'm blessed and thankful for my babies everyday because they are my purpose and reason "

#PeopleofPlaza: Mr. Espinal Rodriguez is currently a first semester student in the Dental Hygiene Program of Cohort Six. His inspiration to study Dental Hygiene started in his junior year of High School. I originally wanted to study immigration law after witnessing my mother go through this legal process. I felt I could help others facing similar circumstances but eventually realized this wasn’t the right path for me. I then came across a Dental Assistant Program with BOCES.... I signed up and fell in love with the coursework. My instructor was a Dental Hygienist and shared how great this career path was. This is an amazing opportunity to be at Plaza College. At Plaza you are not treated as a number, but rather valued for who you are and your efforts. Dr. Sleeper says, from the moment I met Mr. Rodriguez I knew he was very serious about making his career goals come true. He showed up for his interview with me in a jacket and tie and absolutely embodied the spirit and grit that Dental Hygiene students must have to succeed. He continues to show up daily in our program, not only for himself but for his fellow students. Freshmen Dental Hygiene students are placed into random study groups and he was chosen to lead his group and he takes this duty quite seriously."
