During the most recent virtual board meeting, the Town of North Hempstead board unanimously voted to approve the expansion and renovation of the Uncle Giuseppe’s Market in Port Washington. Port Washington Superintendent Dr. Michael Hynes informed the Port Washington community last Sunday evening, April 25, that two swastikas were spray-painted onto the exterior walls at John Philip Sousa Elementary School in Port Washington. The Port Washington Police District is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the male pictured above regarding an antiSemitic graffiti incident at John P. Sousa Elementary School. The unidentified male is seen in security footage at approximately 5:30 p.m. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with an orange and yellow logo, black pants with stripes down the sides. Edward T. Knizewski passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020 of natural causes. He was 89. His latest residence was Aegis Lodge Assisted Living, Kirkland, WA. Ed was born on Oct 12th, 1931 in Utica, N.Y. to Teodore and Julia Knizewski. The family moved shortly after his birth to New York City. Ed was raised on Brown Ave, Bronx, N.Y. North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Councilmember Mariann Dalimonte and the town board recently welcomed the Port Washington Police Department (PWPD) to a virtual Point of Personal Privilege. The town honored the PWPD for receiving a Gold Award in AAA’s Northeast’s Community Traffic Awards Program for 2019. The Sands-Willets House, a historical museum located in Port Washington will be receiving a much needed restoration in the coming months. The Cow Neck Peninsula Historical Society was awarded a $125,525 grant from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for the restoration of Sands-Willets Home’s front porch. Brian Staley defeated former commissioner Tom Rice in the race for Port Washington Police Commissioner on Dec. 8. Staley received 787 votes, to Rice’s 393. Staley has been in served the Port Washington community for more than 35 years. Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Mariann Dalimonte recently spoke to students from Schreiber High School’s Student Advocacy Club during their most recent meeting. The club is comprised mostly of juniors and seniors and their mission is to enlighten and encourage students to advocate for important topics that affect the world and their local community. Nearly a month after 13 cell nodes were approved by the Town of North Hempstead (TONH), town officials held a public hearing to make amendments to Chapter 75 of the TONH code entitled Wireless facilities. Village of Manorhaven Mayor Jim Avena is seeking to amend the village’s code of ethics following the Sept. 15 election. According to Avena, the village received information that one of the candidates running for a position on the Manorhaven Board of Trustees, Walter Peters has an arrest record including a felony conviction. The Town of North Hempstead (TONH) voted on and approved code changes for the BW Waterfront Business District at their most recent virtual meeting on Oct. 22. After an 18 month long process, which included more than 20 public meetings, resident feedback and several amendments to the code, the changes were finally brought before the board for a vote. At the meeting on Sept. 23, the Port Washington Police District’s (PWPD) announced they would be selling the home they purchased on 4 Derby Rd. The home sold for $780,000 in March, and is directly in back of the existing police district parking lot.
