It’s Otto Baumberger’s birthday! One of Switzerland’s most prominent poster designers, Baumberger was equally comfortable with Object Poster style minimalist compositions (like this 1930s design) as well as more illustrational tableaux.

Freak Power tells the story of Hunter S. Thompson's plan to become Sheriff, take control of Aspen, and transform it from a conservative mining town into a mecca for artists, rebels, and activists. Through posters by Thomas W. Benton, artwork by Ralph Steadman, photographs, and film from the campaign, Freak Power chronicles a little-known period in Hunter's lifea period when he wrote prolifically about politics, the environment, drugs, and American values. As the conservatives and freaks battled it out, the campaign became fraught with violence, accusations, and moments of absurdity that bordered on fiction. Book your ticket online!

It’s National #CheeseDay Despite being one of the world’s most delicious foods, there are relatively few posters advertising cheese. Most are Swiss, Italian, or French, like this 1934 design for Galbani.

We’re so excited for our upcoming virtual event with Poster House! Join us for an evening conversation on Zoom next Monday, December 14, from 6:30 to 8pm ET. W...e’ll be talking about the early history of letterpress printing in New York City! We’ll explore a number of production processes that built the visual landscape of New York, with special attention paid to the typographic trends of broadsides and handbills from the 19th century. Rob Wilson, our Art Director and Operations Manager, will show and tell how we preserve the skills and traditions of 19th century letterpress printing and how artifacts from the Museum’s working collection are used in a contemporary practice. This online event will be hosted on Poster House’s Zoom account, and closed captioning will be provided. To register visit Poster House!

Insight from Above by Tick Studio "New York of late is on its knees Thru prayer with brothers and fear of disease Though it never ceases to have sights... That distort your vision And reflection with such strength despite this time we are experiencing Symbols of joy that mirror on our time here. Whether a solar eclipse or a bronze sculpture affixed to heritage building that evolves to anon Sky or the space once a time we replace to our own being with family that brings a new pace of working or schooling of eating and gyming of zooming no grooming and cooking and looming New York will survive as we glance way up high knowing Natures at work We will emerge and adapt with a creative surge With the respect and resolve we are one with all." #OdeToNYC NYCxDESIGN posters are available for purchase on shop.posterhouse.org, with proceeds going to Black Artist+Designers Guild.

We’re excited to share an #OdetoNYC poster by UX and Industrial Designer, Vincent Lin! Lin’s bold design titled The Tough New Yorker, The Tough Apple, is dedi...cated to NYC’s resilience and ability to bounce back from adversity. I love New York so much, I haven't left the city this year. We were the worst and deadliest city in this nation 6 months ago, now we survived. Because we're tough, we know how to handle the situation better. Wear a mask, wash hands, watch distance. We follow the simple rule, believe the science and data, and support each other [...] I feel so grateful and so proud to be a New Yorker. Read the full story behind Lin’s design and see where you can find his poster in-person: https://bit.ly/35sfhRR The poster is available for sale exclusively at the Poster House SHOP, with proceeds going to The Black Artist+Designers Guild.
