Last year Mach1 adopted AgentM, a three year old Bengal Eagle Owl that was rescued by The Owl Trust in Northern Wales. The owl is our Mach1 mascot. Owls are extremely specialized creatures with a highly developed auditory (hearing) system. An Owl's range of audible sound (200 - 12,000 Hz) is not too different than a human's range, but an Owl's hearing is much more acute at certain frequencies enabling it to hear even the slightest movement of their prey. When a noise is hear...d, an Owl is able to tell its direction because of the minute time difference in which the sound is perceived in the left and right ear. Owls can detect a left/right time difference of about 0.00003 seconds (30 millionths of a second!) An Owl can also tell if the sound is higher or lower by using the asymmetrical or uneven nature of their Ear openings. The left ear left opening is higher than the right - so a sound coming from below the Owl's line of sight will be louder in the right ear. The translation of left, right, up and down signals are combined instantly in the Owl's brain, and create a mental image of the space where the sound source is located. They use this to triangulate to the exact spot of any noise in the dark. Bengal Eagle Owl's are also one of several owl species that also have 'ear tufts'. Using its asymmetrical ear openings, the Bengal Eagle Owl lines up on the sound on the vertical plane. All these signals combine instantly in the owl’s brain, creating a mental image of the space where the sound source is located. Not unlike our work in at Mach1 in spatial audio. Mach1. Early access feature of transcoding/converting a Mach1 Spatial soundfield mix to any custom multichannel format via JSON descriptions. We have this functioning for both input and output via the m1-transcode commandline tool and will continue to build GUI tools to help creators design their own multichannel formats and configurations and safely mix to and from them for further uses. feel free to message about how to use the commandline tool or design your own JSON file Also If you haven’t yet visit www.mach1.tech/trial to submit your iLok ID for a free 3 month license to all platforms. All downloads and previous versions can be accessed via: www.mach1.tech/downloads
