We are looking for community members to speak to their experiences struggling with COVID and the relief that Queens Center For Gay Seniors has brought them. Seniors will self film their stories with guidance, and the videos will be used on social media as part of the campaign. ... Below are the topics that one could speak to: Physical health services (COVID testing, gender-affirming therapy, primary care, etc.) Mental health services Age-specific services Legal services Housing and shelter services Food security services This video will be used for a campaign put out by the NYS LGBT Network, they will provide a small honorarium of $200 for your time and energy. Hello All! Are you in need of food? We will be distributing our monthly food boxes which contain 15 lbs of non perishable food items tomorrow Tuesday, October 27th between 11:00am- 2:00pm at our center. Please bring a cart to take things home as the boxes are heavy. This will be given out on a first come first serve basis to those who are 60+. You do not need to be on our pantry list to receive, stop by! Limited supply!

A virtual tour of LGBT historic sites in Queens ** FREE ** The first Queens Pride Parade was held in Jackson Heights in 1993, around the time that the borough’s diverse LGBT community was becoming more visible and activist-oriented. Catalyzing the movement was the gay-biased murder of Julio Rivera as well as the homophobic outcry towards the Children of the Rainbow public school program. Join project manager Amanda Davis as we highlight sites throughout her home borough of Qu...eens, with a focus on Jackson Heights, that connect to New York City’s LGBT history. From popular Latino gay and lesbian bars, such as Friends Tavern and the now-shuttered Bum Bum Bar, to spaces such as the Community United Methodist Church, we'll discuss sites that helped establish Jackson Heights as an important center of queer social life and activism beyond Manhattan. IMPORTANT: Please make sure the name/email used for registration via Eventbrite matches the display name on your Zoom. This is essential for a smooth check-in process and to avoid delays being admitted into the virtual event. For event security, check in begins at 6:25PM and discussion starts promptly at 6:30PM.
