BUYER BEWARE - FRAUDELENT TEXAS BUYER TEMPORARY REGISTRATION SPECIFICALLY- RPD has recently seen a large influx of fraudulent Texas Buyer Tags mounted on vehicles. Within the last few weeks RPD has made over 8 arrests and written dozens of summons in regards. Since 2017, car dealers have sold millions of dollars worth of fake Texas Temporary tags, keeping tens of thousands of unsafe or stolen vehicles on the road. Car dealers can access temporary tags from the state’s e-...tag online system, but those are only legal when they’re selling a car to a retail customer, have the vehicle pass Texas Inspection within the past 180 days, and the dealers are required to apply for title and registration of your vehicle within 20 working days of the date of sale. Fraudulent paper tags are sold under the table, often to avoid safety inspections, emissions testing, vehicle registration suspensions, or to hide that a vehicle’s been stolen. Dealers often advertise the fake tags on sites like Craigslist and Facebook marketplace. If you are operating a vehicle with a Texas Temporary Tag, please be certain that it is valid. RPD is actively enforcing this fraud. See more

There's no doubt about it, Halloween 2020 will look different from every other year before it. Some families may be looking to give their children a return to a sense of normalcy, others may be looking for alternatives to traditional trick-or-treating. If you are planning on going out this Halloween, the Ramapo Police Department would like to offer adults and children the following tips for a safe and enjoyable day: While Trick or Treating: - Washable or disposable gloves... can be worn, or carry/use hand sanitizer between houses. - Visit less homes than usual, sticking to those you know. -Avoid going out in large groups- stick to immediate family. Encourage teens to observe social distancing if out with friends. -Only Accept candy that is totally wrapped and sealed, and take COVID precautions at home before consuming it. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing the street and keep looking as you cross. Put electronic devices down and keep heads up. Walk, don’t run, across the street. Always remain alert and cognizant of your surroundings. Teach children to make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them. Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible. Children should walk on direct routes with the fewest street crossings. Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors. Choose face paint and makeup whenever possible instead of masks, which can obstruct a child’s vision. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers. Motorists, please use extra precaution and follow these guidelines: Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways. Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs. Enter and exit driveways, and make turns slowly and carefully. Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances. SOME POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES THAT CAN KEEP KIDS SAFER FROM BOTH TRAFFIC AND COVID: - Let kids dress up as usual, but hold a scavenger hunt for treats in your home or yard. - Host an outdoor movie night featuring a scary (or not scary) Halloween movies. -Host a Halloween Zoom party or Zoom-o-Ween! #halloween2020 #halloween #COVID19 #safetyfirst #ramapopolice #police #rocklandcounty

If your traveling on Route 59 in Airmont this morning you may notice that the skyline looks a little different. Yesterday, crews from NYCOMCO and Olori Crane Service took down the radio tower at RPD. The tower which has been in place since 1967 was no longer needed due to significant changes in communications technology. The antennas that were mounted way up high on the tower are now safely mounted to our station's roof. In the attached photos you can see NYCOMCO employees up on the tower coordinating with the Olori crane operator to bring the tower down safely in sections. The other photos are of the new skyline and antennas. Special thanks to the Town of Ramapo Highway Department in helping us complete this project.
