Group 3 Ridge Road firefighters, off duty returning firefighters, with the help of many of our neighbors, responded to a business on Mt. Read Blvd in the Indust...rial Zone for a large fire in a warehouse today around 1030 AM. Engine 253 and 2C45 went on location observing smoke from the overhead doors of a large recycling processing facility and called a working fire. They found an operating excavation machine inside the bay on top of the pile on fire and quickly deployed hose lines to the area. We were able to keep the fire contained to the excavator that was on fire as well as a very small area of the materials under it. Once the fire was put out it was discovered that the excavator involved in the fire was also leaking its fuel from its fuel tank into the material pile. This prompted a Level 0 Hazmat on scene as well. Teamwork helped this fire go smoothly and prevent further damage to a sizable building, and the business that it belongs to. Assets from Rochester Fire Department (Engine 3, Truck 2, Battalion 2, and the Protectives), Barnard Fire Department (Engine 225, Squad 226, Rescue 228, 2C22 and 2C12), North Greece Fire District (Quint 270, Engine 274, 2C37), Monroe County Fire Bureau (Hazmat, Fire Investigation, and Scene Management Teams), Monroe Ambulance (3 ALS Ambulances), the Town of Greece Fire Marshal's and Building Inspectors Office, the management team from JC Fibers, Ray Kerhaerts Towing & Repair, Greece Police Department, New York, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, and Rochester Gas and Electric were all used on scene to keep control of an otherwise hectic scene. All of this was coordinated through hard work from Emergency Communications Department - 911 in Rochester, NY. While at the fire Rochester Fire Department Engine 10 and Spencerport Fire District filled in to the Ridge Road Fire District to ensure our residents' fire and EMS coverage never experienced a shortage. During their fill-in at Ridge Road, Rochester (Engine 10) along with Gates Fire Dept. Co. 2 (Engine 4532), and North Greece (Engine 274) handled a fire alarm with a backup call reporting and odor of smoke in the building in the Unity Campus and Barnard Fire District also handled a call in the Stoneridge district. Thanks Firefighter Pillsbury, Lt. Williams, and BC Riesenberger for photos.

Ridge Road firefighters responded for a trailer that collapsed onto its diesel saddle tank inside a loading dock. The leak in the fuel tank resulted in about 1...5 gallons of diesel spilling. Firefighters used damming to contain the leaking diesel from further contaminating the area and the fuel was cleaned up. Thank you to representatives from Ray Kerhaerts Towing & Repair and Monroe County Fire Bureau Hazmat Team who responded to assist in the mitigation of the incident.

On Friday, March 29, 2019 at approximately 5:45 PM, the Webster Volunteer Fire Department was called to the 900 block of Monroe Wayne County Line Road for a rep...ort of a motor vehicle crash with a commercial vehicle rollover. Command arrived and confirmed a commercial tree service boom truck and wood chipper in tow overturned on the Monroe County side of the roadway. The situation developed into a Level Zero Hazmat due to the leaking fuel and engine fluids from the truck and wood chipper. The roadway was closed for several hours as a heavy wrecker righted the vehicle and crews mitigated the fuel and oil spill. No injuries were reported and the crash investigation is being conducted by the Webster Police Department. See more

Business and Academic Award - Presented to a local business or academic institution showing leadership and support to the community in the area of fire safety ...and prevention Kerhaert’s Towing service The Monroe County Fire Bureau strives to provide fire personnel with top notch state level training every year to enhance our county’s capabilities in special operations. This year they put 50 firefighters through rigorous collapse training. Part of this training was heavy rigging operations. The purpose of this course was to provide the students the basic principles on the safe and effective operations of working with heavy rigging equipment and cranes used to safely extricate trapped victims in structural collapse situations. The students learned how to identify, use and maintain the equipment used to rig loads, implement the process of planning a lift as well as rig, lift, and move objects using various hand tools as well as actual hands- on time with a crane. When it came time to acquire the equipment needed to successfully launch this class off the ground, a rotator crane was needed. The Fire Bureau reached out to Mike Kerhaert at Kerhaert’s Towing as a known business in the community for helping the emergency services. Mike was receptive and excited about the opportunity to work with the Fire Service in this area. So much so, he provided his rotator to us free of charge. Mike spent a total of 8 hours providing us his vehicle, that could have otherwise been used as income, to help bolster the abilities of our counties fire service. For his efforts, we award Kerhaert’s towing and Mike Kerhaert the Business Award. https://www.facebook.com/Ray-Kerhaerts-Towing-Repair-175696832780357/
