Rebuild Hi Tor Animal Shelter and Adoption Center

There are been several inquiries lately regarding the flow of money that had been raised by our group for Hi Tor Animal Care Center. I would like to take this time to clarify some points raised. When Rebuild Hi Tor began in July 2012, all money raised (money that was mailed to our PO Box and that went through the Paypal account on our website, etc) was deposited into a Hi Tor acct under Hi Tor's tax ID number. The signers on the acct were all Hi Tor Board members and no one f...rom Rebuild Hi Tor could withdraw from that account. Then in approximately March of 2014, we were made aware that the money that Rebuild raised that was in the Hi Tor account could be subject to any litigation against the shelter for any reason. In order to protect the money, the Hi Tor Board transferred the money that was in their Rebuild account to the Rockland Community Foundation. When we learned that no refunds could be given from the Foundation account (it has always been Rebuild's policy that until construction commenced, refunds could be given to anyone that could provide proof of their donation), Rebuild opened up a bank account under a new Rebuild Hi Tor tax ID number thus securing these funds to be protected from any possible litigation against Hi Tor Animal Care Center. When people had started expressing concern about the certainty of where the money in this Rebuild account would go, I approached the Hi Tor Board and told them that we would gladly sign a letter drawn up by their attorney guaranteeing that all money raised under the Rebuild Hi Tor Animal Shelter name would go to the Hi Tor Animal Care Center to build a new shelter. We never received such a letter. I had asked for this letter several times as I felt that it would put everyone at ease. Such a letter was never presented to us. Currently Rebuild Hi Tor has disbanded as a formal organization and all monies raised has been turned over to Hi Tor. I hope that this answers peoples' concerns about where the money that we raised in the almost two years that we were active went as well as why we opened a separate bank account. ~Arlene
