During the six weeks of programming students design and construct a structure to complete the hands-on portion of the WTP training. Students present hands-on model demonstrating basic blueprint reading, measurement, costing out interior and exterior materials, while using the exercise to connect to their chosen trade. Come join us at one of our Tuesday/Thursday 5pm info sessions to learn more about how you can start your career in construction. ... #rebuildnyc #workforce #construction #handsonlearning #home #nycha #skillstraining #economicequity #jobs #jobopportunity #nyc #virtuallearning #maskup #lifechange #employmentopportunities

Founded on August 25, 1925, The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was the first labor organization led by African Americans to receive a charter in the American Federation of Labor (AFL). The BSCP gathered a membership of 18,000 passenger railway workers across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Beginning after the American Civil War, the job of Pullman porter had become an important means of work in the black community in the United States. Today, Rebuilding Together NYC's Pre-Apprenticeship Workforce Training Program reskills un/underemployed New Yorkers (90% people of color) for construction careers. We are proud that 90% of job placements are with a union. #unionstrong #history #union #labor #tdih #thisdayinhistory

Hello RT NYC Rebuilders, Our city and nation are amid a painful, complex, and historic moment; one that requires great reflection. Rebuilding Together NYC stands with Black Lives Matter and those exercising their first amendment rights through protest to resist police brutality and all forms of institutionalized racism suffered by the Black community for over 400 years.... Still, it is not enough to simply voice solidarity when lives and livelihoods are gravely impacted daily by racism and an enabling infrastructure. We must do more to build a racially just world, a world where the lives of Black people are valued and respected as much as white people. Rebuilding Together NYC's work in housing and economic equity are integral to the fight for racial justice. Through our day-to-day work, we empower individuals to preserve their family home, an asset to pass on to the next generation, and support New Yorkers in their quest to obtain a well-paying career. However, as an organization, we have much more work to do. Rebuilding Together NYC commits to: - Aligning our mission and updating our organizational policies and practices using a racial justice lens - Diversifying our governance structure to ensure Black, indigenous, and people of color are represented - Educating our Rebuilder stakeholders about the impact of institutionalized racism, specifically, discriminatory housing and employment policies and practices We are listening and encourage you to join us in this dialogue. Sincerely, Valerie Payne Executive Director [email protected] https://conta.cc/3cOVTjD

Today would have been our sixth annual Coming Home Gala! While we are deeply saddened that we will not be gathering together in a shared space this evening, one filled with the collective energy we all miss so dearly in our city, the warm hugs, the multitude of toasts ... we are so grateful to have the memories of an evening that means so much to so many, that brings out not only the best New Yorkers, but the best in ourselves and each other ... we thank you all for your sup...port over the years, and the ways in which you have leaned in with us, our homeowners, and our students, in this particularly challenging time for us all, and we look forward to safely and creatively celebrating this resilience in the months to come ... please stay tuned for more details on our updated event in october ... stay safe, stay healthy, and take care of one another .. cheers! #gala #together #housing #newyorkers #workforcedevelopment #safeathome #safe #healthy #housingishealthcare #nyc #covid19 #fundraiser #donate #volunteer #construction #hope #celebrate #gratitude #resilience #thankyou #rebuild #iamarebuilder @ New York, New York

#TBT to Rebuilding Days past! Oh! To be gathered in a room with hundreds of our fellow community-minded, loving, tough, strong New Yorkers! This coming Saturday would be National Rebuilding Day, here in NYC and across the country for our sister affiliates. NRD reminds us of our individual power in creating collective, meaningful change in the lives of our neighbors AND highlights the critical role safe housing plays in supporting community health and vitality. We miss our volunteers and can't wait to rebuild with you soon. #IAmARebuilder #nationalrebuildingday #NRD #NYC #nyctough #COMMUNITY #loving #service #volunteers #housing #housingishealthcare #healthcare #health #safety #donate #dogood #takecareofeachother #rebuild #rebuildnyc #neighbors #together #home #safeathome @ New York, New York

Rebuilding Together NYC was able to donate 660 N95 masks to Brooklyn Hospital in the midst of the COVID19 crisis. Edwin, a member of the hospital’s heroic team said, on behalf of the Brooklyn Hospital, I would like to thank you for your generous donation. We really needed additional supplies to aid this time of need. We are humbled to stand together with our healthcare workers.... #covid19 #nyc #coronavirus #healthcare #healthcareworkers #housingishealthcare #brooklyn #publichealth #donate #n95 #ppe #staysafe #stayhome #IAmARebuilder
