Recreational Recumbents 13.01.2021

The last few weeks have been productive in terms of getting some mileage during the heat wave. The rides have been shorter or just more short rides. The performance ride to Sherley Beach was as fast as the last time. The Velorod is performing well and consistent and that is a very big deal! The usual was it would get worse with every ride. I could tell because I could feel it in my legs. Friday the ride was only 10 miles, The next day was 35 miles and yesterday was another 20... miles. My legs felt good after each of those rides, which allows me to ride on consecutive days. The mileage total is now over 1300 miles to date. Last year the total was only 1400 miles. It only took 25 years to get to this point. In my defense, riding a limited amount of miles each year slows the development process. Here are some pictures from the last few rides. Now that the weather is cooling off, the real rides will begin and that means the north shore. That should be "fun". Stay tuned!! See more

After suffering from poison something (kayaking) for the last three weeks, I am ready to kayak some place else! The heat is on and so is the humidity. The rides have been 20 milers for the most part. There was the ride to Shirley Beach. As usual, it was a fun ride, but very sweaty! The last ride was to Lakeland Park for the first time in about 4-5 weeks. I was originally going to ride out to Riverhead and thought better of it. It was way to warm and humid for that ride. It ended up a 43 mile ride and was glad to sit down and cool off once home. The plan is to ride more in the 40 mile range to prepare for the hilly and longer rides. This ride put me over 1000 miles for the year. More to come.

Its been a while since my last post. The time was focused on making a part that works and lasts. It appears for now that may be occurring. The first 6 days of July were riding for a minimum 20 miles until that Monday, which happened to be 6 days. The weather was hot and humid, but doable. The rides were always in the direction of the Bay and go from there. It turns out it was three different rides, one per day with variations to make it fun. One hundred and thirty three miles in six days. The Velorod as I am calling it these days, rode really nice with no real issues. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures for the 6 days, but pictures for last month. Stay cool!!

The good weather seems to be here now and just in time for the first real ride with the new parts. The ride was to Shirley Beach. It took only 1 hour and 19 minutes at 12.9 average speed and 17.22 miles. That is a personal best for me. The damn thing rides really well. I hope it stays that way. Next real ride will be to Belmont State Park, a 48 miler. Here are some pictures from the day.

The velo is in the shop AGAIN!!! Same thing different day.....the shims are destroyed so new shims are in place to ride again. While it was off the road, the Old Boy was put into action with a ride in the Bellport area. All I do is pull it out, pump the tires, lube the chain and some clean up. Its 25 years old and its still working. I know, just ride it. Its very heavy at 90+ pounds. A all new trike is in the works, its a matter of when. Here are some pictures from the ride. Hey, that guy looks familiar!
