"Separation of families is the worst punishment you can give a parent" says Deborah Jane, A resettled Ugandan refugee and acid attack survivor. Debrah did it the right way, she followed our immigration laws. Upon being resettled in the United States she filed a following to join application for her children so they could join her in the US. But, like thousands of other refugee families their paperwork got stuck in "administrative processing" leaving their families separate...d. In the bottom picture Debrah hugs her children for the first time in 4 years, after deciding to go to Kenya to see them. Top picture shows three fathers who have been separated from their children during zero tolerance policy time and detained at the El Paso Processing Center in El Paso, Texas. With unprecedented access to ICE, Immigration nation will show for the first time how children's separation looks like from inside the system. #ImmigrationNation on @netflix August 3rd! See more

Deported Veteran Cesar pleads with the staff of New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham asking her to pardon him of a marijuana charge that got him deported 8 years ago. "My mom brought me to the US when I was 2 years old. Man what a great nation to pick us up and give us shelter, that's the country I want to be a part of. And I always heard that freedom ain't free, freedom is built on the blood of patriots. I wanted my blood to be part of that. I am ok to die for this country but not ok to live in it. That's kind of bullshit" says Cesar. In three years of documenting the immigration system there was one thing everyone from all political spectrums agreed on, our system is broken. Can we all agree on not deporting those who have served our country? #ImmigrationNation coming to @netflix August 3rd!

Meet Berta, a 63-year-old grandmother whose life was threatened by MS13 gang members after she refused to let them take and marry off her 12-year-old granddaughter. The two fled their home country to seek asylum in the U.S. Berta followed our immigration laws seeking asylum in a port of entry, yet Berta was separated from her granddaughter and detained for 17 months in ICE custody. Berta's story is featured in our episode "The right way". This episode dissects the systems that are in place for entering the United States legally and how they continue to be dismantled even for the most vulnerable and those who are trying to follow immigration rules and do it the right way. #ImmigrationNation on @netflix August 3rd!
