But, like thousands of other refugee families their paperwork got stuck in "administrative processing" leaving their families separate...d. Deported Veteran Cesar pleads with the staff of New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham asking her to pardon him of a marijuana charge that got him deported 8 years ago. "My mom brought me to the US when I was 2 years old. Man what a great nation to pick us up and give us shelter, that's the country I want to be a part of. And I always heard that freedom ain't free, freedom is built on the blood of patriots. I wanted my blood to be part of that. I am ok to die for this country but not ok to live in it. Meet Berta, a 63-year-old grandmother whose life was threatened by MS13 gang members after she refused to let them take and marry off her 12-year-old granddaughter. The two fled their home country to seek asylum in the U.S. Berta followed our immigration laws seeking asylum in a port of entry, yet Berta was separated from her granddaughter and detained for 17 months in ICE custody.
