Day in and day out, Dr. Daniel Aghion of Boca Raton, Florida works tirelessly to improve his patients' quality of life. Being a neurosurgeon, he is on the frontline of life-saving work. In 2020 Renewal was in the Boca Raton, FL community for a Shabbos to raise awareness about kidney donation, and help a local who was in need of a donor. The spectacular Shabbos was capped off by a beautiful Melava Malka at the Boca Raton Synagogue where Rabbi David Shabtai, a kidney donor, and... Rabbi at BRS spoke. Inspired to come forward, Dr. Danny swabbed to be a donor. He turned out to be a match for the local person in need, and in spite of his hectic schedule as a neurosurgeon and father of four young children, he started testing. In the interim, his original recipient received a kidney and Dr. Danny agreed to donate to someone else on the Renewal list. Rebbetzin Adeena Penner is a busy mother and grandmother. Her husband, Rabbi Penner is the dean of REITS at Yeshiva University. Adeena and her husband observed with admiration a growing group of Rabbis who trained in the REITS program who donated kidneys through Renewal over the last few years. Seeing this made a great impression on the Penners and when a friend's mother needed a kidney, the Rebbetzin stepped forward to test. Although she did not match this woman, she was hap...py to test for others on Renewal's list. Today she is donating to Boris, a dentist from New York who is a father and grandfather.
