I guess it's time to take down the Christmas decorations... Buildings & Grounds Supt. Charlie Marks helps take down lights from the depot and some of our exhibits this morning while we enjoyed some warmer weather.
Chuck Whalen is painting the grab irons and hand holds safety orange inside Lehigh Valley caboose 95100.
We had two train crews operating simultaneously this morning performing some switching moves in the upper yard. We used RGV 54 (ex-US Army 1654) and Rochester Gas & Electric 41 (ex-Groveton Paper Mill). Both diesels are products of General Electric, built in 1959 and 1941, respectively.

A brisk morning... RG&E 1941 moves north through Switch 7 while we rearrange the Upper Yard.

A frosty start to today’s switching activities. We were able to accomplish needed switching moves thanks to our great volunteers!

Work continues on finishing up the last few jobs on LV 95100. The oil stove has been reconditioned, Chuck Whalen and Sam Rosenberg are working on windows and installing the toilet (display only), while Rob Burz plumbs the conductor's air brake valve.

Lehigh Valley Railroad painted this caboose in patriotic red, white and blue colors in November 1975. They would become part of Conrail in April 1976, missing the actual Bicentennial celebration by about four months. Our restored LV caboose will be wearing more traditional colors when it is completed this summer. Happy Fourth of July! Don Jilson

Several volunteers helped sort the parts that belong to our two small steam locomotives today as we prepare to work with a contractor on the cosmetic restoration of Brooklyn Navy Yard no. 12. The parts were placed on pallets and moved into the shop for temporary storage and assessment.
Thanks for all the volunteers who came out to help with body prep on the Lehigh Valley caboose today!
The stovepipe and heat shield (fabricated by volunteer Bill Marcotte) have been installed and the system given the smoke test. Now to move the 280 outside for a real fire!

Installing The New Entrance to the Baggage Car Exhibit: A Drama in Two Parts. We used the forklift to bring the new platform down to Industry on October 16, and we used our Bobcat and borrowed auger to set it to the proper level on October 20. Permanent wooden stairs will be added after the end of our public operating season.
BR&P caboose 280 gets it’s new smokejack fitted. Volunteer Bill Marcotte did fantastic fabrication work on the replica! Now to connect the stovepipe inside before Winter sets in.
