Oaks Prague Villas, 2020, Czech Republic The general concept and design of the villas was driven by the stringent local zoning and planning regulations, which mandate a traditional pitched roof. The proposed solution is as simple as it is ingenious: a simple gable roof with a rotated ridge, resulting in a dynamic structure that, while recalling the pitched roof of Czech villages, reinterprets it in a sculptural and contemporary structure. ... White composite panels clad the striking roof volume and wrap it continuously along inclined and vertical surfaces. Blond oak panels line the underside of the roof and fold it into the interior envelope, creating a contrasting element with texture and domestic warmth. Exterior sun screens overlap the more public and open spaces to reduce glare and heat, filtering the natural light while remaining porous and open to the views over the surrounding landscape. A distinct parti defines the design of each villa prototype. One design expresses a simple linear mass oriented to maximize views towards the golf course, and the second prototype reflects a more compact structure and dynamic juxtaposition of planes and volumes. The villas occupy approximately 650 s.m. above grade and 100 s.m. below grade, with generous rooms and open spaces. In both schemes, semi-public areas such as the living room, dining room, kitchen and family room are located on the main floor, while the private quarters are situated on the upper level. As in the Smith and Neugebauer houses the interior spaces expand into a dramatic double-height living area which frames the outdoor spaces with the sharp lines of the roof above. . . . The Smith House, 1967, Darien, Connecticut Located in the town of Darien, Connecticut, the house is situated on a wooded site that overlooks the Long Island Sound. Completed in 1967, the residence was built for Fred and Carole Smith, and today is owned by their sons, Chuck and Hobie Smith. The public spaces, where the family meets and entertains, are to the rear of the house, overlooking the water. This public sector consists of three levels nestled within a three-side...d glass enclosure; from the outside, the ground and upper levels appear as solid slabs held fast in the white mullions of the glass shell. Placed directly opposite the entry, a painted brick fireplace pushes to the outside through the tight frame of mullions. Suspended between the chimney and the steel structural columns, the glazed wall creates a subtle tension that draws the occupant across the living space to the outside. The balustrades of the lower and upper levels are set back from the glass, amplifying that tension. . . . OCT Shenzhen Clubhouse, Shenzhen, China The OCT Shenzhen Clubhouse consists of two buildings occupying an artificial island on the southern edge of Shenzhen, a waterfront financial center north of Hong Kong. The Clubhouse provides a quiet oasis for guests and members with a restaurant, a multi-purpose area, as well as recreational facilities, a fitness center, and a small exhibition gallery. The geometry of the Clubhouse follows a precise focal point from which layers o...f distinct spaces radiate and terminate in a sweeping curve that is seen from the Cultural and Entertainment Center across the water. The project is also the first building to use Corian panels as an exterior cladding façade material. Chosen because of its color and surface quality, Corian offered the ability to clad the tall walls of the Clubhouse with very large panels. This almost seamless surface was then articulated with finely detail open joints, either 3 or 20 mm wide. At 18,400 square feet, the OCT Shenzhen Clubhouse demonstrates innovative construction techniques, a unique composition of light and space, and challenges the usual fitness center typologies. The dramatic planes and natural light shape the space, define the building, and animate the interior spaces. . . . @rolandhalbe #richardmeierpartners #richardmeier #modernarchitecture # #archilovers # #архитектура #arquitectura #moderndesign #architecturalphotography #moderndesign #beachouse #richardmeierwhite #china See more
