Canadian artist, Tom Thomson (August 5, 1877 July 8, 1917). I love his expressive and broad brushwork along with thick paint application. He is considered by many as the father of the group of Seven. However, his accidental death at 39 by drowning in a canoe accident came shortly before the founding of the Group. #sketchbookdrawing I don’t often draw landscapes on site. I’ve always struggled with a point as a tool to render the masses or shapes of color and tone; it’s been a skill I’ve had to really work at. I’ve always been more comfortable with a brush. This old arch bridge on the canal was a reason to do so with it’s graceful geometry and strong cast shadows as it abuts the tree covered bank.
