Frederick Douglass was an escaped slave who became a prominent activist, author and public speaker. He became a leader in the abolitionist movement, which sought to end the practice of slavery, before and during the Civil War. After that conflict and the Emancipation Proclamation of 1862, he continued to push for equality and human rights for the remainder of his life. We aspire to create change in our communities just as he did. #nodreamtoobig #blackexcellence

Carter G. Woodson was the second African American to receive a doctorate from Harvard. Known as the "Father of Black History," Woodson dedicated his career to the field of African American history and lobbied extensively to establish Black History Month as a nationwide institution, which we celebrate. He was also a prolific writer who wrote many historical works, including the 1933 book The Mis-Education of the Negro. His legacy of education , excellence and strength will continue to guide us into the future! #nodreamtoobig#blackexcellence
