Hello from Robert Treman State Park! We're now charging at the gates every day at Robert Treman and Buttermilk Falls State Parks. Existing camping reservations are being honored, but swimming and the playgrounds remain CLOSED until further notice. The Rim and Gorge Trails are open for hiking in one-direction only. Travel UP the Rim Trail and DOWN the Gorge Trail. If you need a shorter loop, start in the Upper Park.... Use of a face covering is required in New York State Parks. Please have a face mask with you and ready to use in case you can't maintain social distancing with strangers. Restroom access at the park remains limited. We really appreciate all of the folks who are respecting one another, and us, by recognizing the rules and following the signage in the park. Thanks!

Buttermilk Falls Gorge Trail Open, Saturday May 30th - ONE WAY HIKING Buttermilk Falls State Park Gorge Trail will be opening this weekend, Saturday May 30th at 8 a.m. with some important changes in response to Covid-19. To allow hikers the ability to maintain safe social distancing, and due to the narrow nature of this popular trail, the loop will be available to hiked in one direction only. Hikers can ascend the Rim Trail, and descend on the Gorge Trail, making a clo...ckwise loop. All visitors are expected to stay on marked trails, and to wear a mask if they cannot maintain six feet of distance from other visitors or park staff. Hikers can begin at the top or bottom as they prefer but will only be able to hike in those directions. Turning around and heading back the way you came in will not be permitted. Accordingly, hikers should be in capable physical condition for a strenuous loop hike with serious inclines, rough and uneven surfaces. The hot, humid weather should be factored in as visitors select the correct hike for their individual conditions. The crossover bridge can provide hikers with a shorter loop and can be crossed from either direction, provided hikers maintain 6 feet of distance or have masks on. All hikers should be prepared with sturdy hiking shoes or boots, plenty of water and a cell phone for emergencies. Trail maps are available for free download from the park website and are featured on signboards near the trailheads. The park is ‘carry in, carry out’ for litter and recycling, and may be operating with fewer than normal restroom facilities in order to meet social distancing and heightened sanitization goals. About Buttermilk Falls State Park: The 1.5-mile Rim/Gorge loop at Buttermilk Falls State Park also includes views of Pulpit Falls and Pinnacle Rock. Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake. The upper park has a small lake, hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge and rim, picnic areas and playing fields. The lower park has a campground, natural pool (swimming to open July 3rd and is weekends only, weather and water quality permitting) and playing fields, beyond which is Larch Meadows. Larch Meadows is a wetland area through which a less strenuous nature trail winds. Annual attendance is 327,000. About OPRHP: The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees more than 250 parks, historic sites, recreational trails, golf courses, boat launches and more, which are visited by 77 million people annually. For more information on any of these recreation areas, call 518-474-0456 or visit www.parks.ny.gov, connect with us on Facebook, or follow on Instagram and Twitter.
