ROC City Restaurant Review 03.12.2020

4/16/19 Whiskey River Pub and Grill - I’ve eaten here many times, since they first opened. The food was always good. Lately they’ve been slipping and slipping hard. The last few visits were quite disappointing. The burger was sloppy and mediocre , the spinach artichoke dip was not good at all. (Now it’s off the menu). I went last night for taco Tuesday. They have $2 tacos on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, the tacos were horrible. They offer a choice of beef, chicken, pulled pork... or buffalo chicken. I tried the beef and chicken. The beef tacos were literally a cold soft flour shell with a tiny scoop of greasy ground beef, some shreds of lettuce and a piece of two of tomato. The chicken was dry and was served the same way as the beef. It came with a side of salsa. Very disappointing. Even a $2 taco can still be awesome if prepared properly. See more

3/24/19 - Texas De Brazil in College Town (22 Celebration Dr. Rochester) Went with a party of 10. The food was quite good. The salad bar/buffet area was very clean and had a great selection of fresh foods. The meats brought out by the gauchos were very tasty! The filet was insanely delicious. The only drawbacks were that the drink prices at the bar were insulting. A Grey Goose and Soda was almost $12. Also, the service wasn’t spectacular. Our server was sweet but not super tentative. Also the gauchos would walk over to one spot at the table, serve 1-2 people and leave. Even when they were being called back, they kept walking. Other than that it was a nice experience.

Sat 7/28 - Fiamma Centro, 4 Elton St. The food, service, atmosphere and decor here are absolutely wonderful. If you haven’t been, you should definitely give them a try. The food is excellent, the staff is very friendly and sweet and it’s a cool, swanky place. The owner is from Italy and had a pizza oven imported. Fresh, handmade pizzas made in an authentic wood fired oven. The rest of the menu items are amazing as well. Great appetizers, Pasta, steaks, seafood dishes. The only critique I have is that they need to either improve or remove the deli cooler in the front. It’s not appealing. But that doesn’t affect the meal or experience.

Perri’s Pizza on Lyell Rd in Gates: I was at a friend’s house in Gates so we decided to order from Perri’s. We all ordered steak subs and also a pizza to share. The steak subs - greasy chips of what tasted like steak-ums. The bread was ok. We had small subs that were $9 ea. I would have no problem paying $9 for a sandwich from a pizzeria if the quality was great. I don’t think it’s a lot for a paying customer to expect that. The pizza wasn’t bad. Nothing special, just not bad.

Esan, 696 Park Ave - one of my go-to places. Esan has the best authentic Thai food I’ve ever had. The owners are the sweetest people. My favorite dish is the spicy chicken. I had it as usual this past week. I encourage you to stop in and try it if you’ve never been. Don’t forget to post your experience! Thank you!
