Well, today, the South End pool was finally reopened. I'd say that I had a hand in inspiring the mayor last year to make it a priority. Politics are funny that way. So even though I didn't win, we got a victory in South Troy. And that's important for the families here in Troy. We skipped our pool at home today, and I took my boys here so they could check it out. They enjoyed it. It was nice and definitely needed here. I'm glad it's open and running. And it's nice to see Patty Brennan supervising and a bunch of other friendly faces.

I made a bunch of predictions regarding the fallout from this Covid-19 situation. We'll see how, or if things line up. https://youtu.be/oX84SHJ7Dq8 #covid19 #coronavirus # bitcoin #cuomo2020 #saratoga

Ok friends, I am back and asking for more donations. You know the food pantries are near and dear to me, so I try my best to help them in any way I can. Well,... it’s that time of the year again CANSTRUCTION!!! Empire Solar and Electric have signed up to be a hunger hero team. Please help us collect as many cans and women’s sanitary products as possible. As a Hunger Hero I will earn 1 point for each pound of food I collect and 6 points for each dollar I collect. I cannot remember my last total, I think it was 600 lbs. Please help me hit at least 1000! You can Venmo me money if that’s easiest, send me sanitary products through amazon or we can work something out to pick up and drop off. Whatever is the easiest. I will be posting a lot so if you don’t care to see these posts you may as well just let me now! Instead I do hope you are touched and will consider donating $5, $10, $15, $20 or sanitary products. Every little bit adds up! I have so many fb friends, this goal should be so easy to reach. Donations go to all of the local food pantries. Thanks you to all that have already donated Venmo- Jolene-Wiltshire

Today was a milestone for the Wiltshires politically speaking. While we were at the DMV we decided that today was the day that we were going to make the switch and change our enrollment out of the Democratic party. This wasn't a quick decision or a spur of the moment move, but rather something that has been brewing for some time now. We are reasonable and thoughtful people who most often align somewhere down the middle and are not too extreme on either side of the political...Continue reading

Don't forget to come out to the Lansingburgh Powers Park Christmas tree lighting ceremony tonight at 5. There is free hot cocoa and donuts and cookies. Plus you can sit on Santa's lap. It's a very nice family friendly event oh, and a little rain won't hurt.

Come out to 41s to help support the Lansingburgh kids with the toy drive tonight. It's great and there's still time to help!

Thank you Jay Maloney for inviting us to breakfast this morning and the tour! Everything was delicious and we are beyond full. All you can eat breakfast for $8 and they even serve you! We will definitely be going back. Check the Speigletown fire dept page for upcoming breakfast dates and Santa will even be making a visit very soon. We were very happy to add to the Toys for Tots box but there are far too many empty boxes remaining. Please help the fire department and all the other businesses supporting Toys for Tots, fill their boxes. Tis’ the season for giving. . No child should ever wake up on Christmas morning to no presents under the tree!

Landlords, this is what happens when rent is to high. This could happen to anyone, and it could very well be the home owners greediness that causes all this hav...oc... Okay, let’s set the scene. You’re a single parent with a child. You work full time for $14. You bring home roughly $800 per paycheck. Your bills: $1000 rent, $150 water/sewer, $250 car payment, $150 car insurance. So let’s do the math. You bring home about $1600 a month and your bills average about $1550, give or take. You’re making it, but barely. (This doesn't even include groceries, internet, cable, cell phone, etc; nor does it include child support) Now, it’s a really cold December and you get a power bill for $600. (* because you Slum Lord will not winterize his house*) How do you pay that? To put it simply, you don’t. Because you can’t. So your power gets shut off. But you know what your lease says? It says you get evicted if your utilities are terminated. So now you’re in court, crying to a judge who doesn’t care, and you have 10 days to get out. Well, you’re in luck! Because you found somewhere with 3 days to spare and it’s only $650 a month! But to get in, you have to pass a background & credit check. Which you can’t, because you just got evicted. You’ve never been a criminal, but even if you could pass it, you’re looking at $2300 to move in, after paying the deposit and first month’s rent. Time’s up! Landlord shows up at 7am with the police and changed your locks. So now you’re living in your car with your 7 year old daughter and everything you need to get by. You tried to get a storage unit, but you don’t have a billing address so they won’t sell one to you, so you could only take what would fit in your backseat. You pay to shower at local truck stops and eat whatever can be cooked in a gas station microwave. Someone sees you and your daughter living like this and calls CPS; guess what happens next. They remove your child from your care. As if this isn’t devastating enough, you lose your job too, because an employee losing their child reflects poorly on this company. So now, you apply for an apartment with the region, where the waiting list is 3-7 years. Then you go into WalMart to put in an application. When you get back to your car, you see that your back window has been smashed and someone helped themselves to your belongings. Remember that it is December, and really cold, and now you have damage to your only shelter. You call your car insurance, who says your deductible is $1,000 AND they’re going to increase your monthly rate since you’re now high risk. You call the homeless shelter as a last resort.....and all their beds are full. I’ll stop here, because I think you get the point. The people we work with everyday are these people. WE ARE THESE PEOPLE. We are all so close to homelessness and don’t even realize it. All it takes is one unexpected bill, one fender bender, one lay-off, one house fire, etc. Instead of talking trash about people who are poor or homeless or need assistance, why don’t you try being thankful that you’re not in their shoes... yet. This is about staying humble and being kind. BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE Copy and pasted because it wouldn’t let me share.

Come down to Nature's Pub in South Troy to help support the food pantries. This is still going until 6pm tonight. Food insecurity is real, and during the holidays it gets worse. Help if you can.
