Repost @blackboxnewmusic NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT! We are so excited to present Gallery of Sound, a program of solo and small ensemble pieces, at @rpmunderground on Tuesday, June 22 from 6-10pm. Tickets on sale NOW at the link in our bio! . . . When COVID cases started increasing again over the winter and we realized that our plans for in-person performances would be untenable, we set out to create an experience that would reflect the times we’re all living in. (Don’t worry,... we’ve re-scheduled all our planned repertoire for next season!) After a year of isolation and social distancing, we wanted to create a space to foreground the profundity of human connection and community. The result is Gallery of Sound, a program designed to create both intimate and communal sonic experiences that create moments of personal connection between the performers and audience members, held at RPM Underground, a Midtown record store and bar. Gallery of Sound will feature pieces by Kaija Saairaho, Dai Fujikura, Jessie Cox, and many others, including original work by BlackBox Ensemble members. Each solo piece on the program will be performed in one RPM's private rooms, creating an intimate connection between the performer and audience, with periodic small ensemble performances. Audience members will be free to move through the space at their own pace, experiencing the concert as if it were an art gallery. Throughout it all, we'll have fixed sound installations, bar service, and an improvisation room, where audience members can gather with their own instruments or voices for spontaneous music making with the performers and other attendees. For our friends outside New York (and those who want to check out both!), we’re also compiling a virtual gallery featuring performances from the event and other repertoire. This virtual gallery will be available in mid-July, and digital passes will be available separately. Come for the Saariaho, stay for the improv room, and then stay longer for a drink! We’re SO excited to welcome back our audiences for our first post-pandemic live performance. Can’t wait to see you there! Get your ticket today at the link in our bio.
