LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE TONIGHT,TUESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 7:30 P.M. IN-PERSON AND BROADCAST LIVE VIA YOUTUBE There’s an Advent tradition within Western Christianity of inviting people to come together for the Longest Night, a night around the time of the winter solstice when there are more hours of darkness than light. Known also as Blue Christmas, a Longest Night gathering is a safe and sacred space to mourn the losses and griefs of the year, to let the tears flow for the hurt...ing places in our lives, as well as for our country and our world. Let us come together and hope through our tears and fears, that God will set things right all over the earth. This special service will include scripture readings, prayers, silence, the lighting of candles, and music. See more

Sunday, August 22, 2021 While the weather doesn't seem as bad as we expected, the City of Rye, as of 7:30 AM this morning, has not lifted it's State of Emergency local travel prohibition which goes into effect at 10:00 AM this morning. Therefore there will be NO IN PERSON worship today. We WILL still be live streaming worship at 10:00 AM and invite you to join us from the safety of your home via Zoom or YouTube.

This is the new window in Rye Presbyterian Church, installed earlier this week. It is given by the congregation to celebrate the sesquicentennial (150 years) of... the laying of the cornerstone of the current sanctuary. The subjects in the window are Ishmael, Hagar, Sarah, Abraham, and Isaac: a blended family, for sure! The words in the lowest panes are from Genesis 12. Note the ram in the top, central pane (the quatrefoil). Remember that, instead of sacrificing Isaac to God (as God instructed Abraham initially), Abraham found the ram in the thicket and sacrificed it (as God instructed him subsequently). The ram then symbolically becomes the Lamb of God (Jesus) [that is a theological discourse unto itself!]. Thus, in this window are depicted three faiths that trace their roots to Abraham: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
