Long after we're all gone, waves will still break on the shore. Stay safe, stay lucky, love one another.

Hello, Capt. David again, writing first person. My mom's been going through my dad's things and found this bronze harpoon dart from a fishing boat that we ran in San Diego in the late 70s. We were inexperienced and unlucky, and the boat didn't pan out. By the early 80s the boat was sold, and we were living in the mountains in Southern Oregon. . Capt. Brooke has a saying I like "Do I regret it? No. Would I do it again? No." A lot of life is like that, and I imagine that's what my father would have said about our unprofitable foray into commercial fishing. 40 years later the money is unmissed, and the memories are precious. #fvgailellen #livingthemontikilifestyle

Sunday flight to Massachusetts. Home after dark to find out the runway lights at KMTP are in-op. This is the sort of thing that would be in the airport NOTAM (notice to airmen) but not if it just happened. Aborted first attempt. Circled and made a better plan for orienting and finding the runway in the dark. Fall back was to fly to KHTO (East Hampton). This is why you keep a minimum of 45 reserve fuel on board (we had about 4 hours)

Oil change coming due, so off to the FBO in Groton (KGON) to get motor oil. Landings at Block Island (KBID) and Westerly (KWST) along the way. Four landings, tower communication, and 1.2 hours for the log book. #whatdoyoudointhewinter #flighttraining #montauk

As we head into the last weekend of our charter season, the emphasis at the Montauk Catamaran Company moves to taking care of our equipment, and that includes taking care of ourselves. In the cold, dark months ahead keeping our bodies moving is a big part of how we keep feed our stoke and and keep our aloha glowing. We'll be looking to you for inspiration and motivation, so please let us know what you're doing to take care of yourself and keep your head screwed on straight. We're all in this together, and we'll get through it together. #montiki #stoked #aloha #5k #montauk

Another winter build idea in the pipeline is MON TIKI CAMP: Build, Rig, Paddle, Sail. We loved the kids sailing workshops we hosted in 2019, and we're exploring the possibly of a full-blow kids summer camp offering for 2021 centered around this gorgeous neo-primitive outrigger sailing canoe design. The idea is to introduce kids to sailing in a more holistic and elemental context, liberated from the Ralph Lauren wannabe pretensions that dominate franchise sailing instruction, and "code" sailing in a way that says it's not for everyone, that it's a rich persons pastime that's more about cocktails at the yacht club than it is about communion with wind and water. That's not what sailing is to us, sailing is just another way to access and enjoy the watery world we love! #camptiki #montiki #summer2021 #montauk
