Passing on the Torch, Sermon from July 4, 2021 It is eleven years since Independence Day fell on a Sunday. In this sermon, Canon Carl Turner reflects on the Olympic Torch, the Statue of Liberty, and the Founding Fathers' set of beliefs and, with the help of a 'special visitor,' we learn how much of this is still a 'work in progress.'

Music from the Gents: Charles Perry Sprawls (Song 5 of 5). The Call, by Ralph Vaughan Williams, is a solo movement from his cantata Five Mystical Songs, a setting of George Herbert poems for chorus and baritone soloist. The work was premiered in 1911 at the Three Choirs Festival, with the composer conducting. While the premiere performance was with orchestra, Vaughan Williams offered several choices for accompaniment, including piano solo, string quintet, and wind ensemble.
