Salesian Youth Ministry 05.05.2022

In the Gospel of the upcoming Sunday, Jesus tells his disciples that the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, will be sent to remind you of all that I have taught you. This is EXACTLY what I need on a daily basis: a reminder. I have a terrible memory and I constantly forget that I walk in God’s presence. I need to be reminded that I am a Salesian priest, a child of God, a disciple, a friend, a sinner, a potential saint. I need to be reminded of who God is, who I am and what I should ...be doing at any given moment. I need help to not forget. I am reminded of God through his creation, the different people he sends me throughout the day, in the Eucharist, Scripture, personal prayer and all the little events throughout the day. Without these, I’d be lost. So let us ask the Spirit to remind us today of whose presence we are in and to rejoice that we have the privilege to walk side by side with our God. #salesian #salesianos #donbosco #stjohnbosoc

For God so loved the world that He gave His only son so that we could have life. I have called you friends. Father, forgive them they know not what they do. This is how we have been loved. ... Maybe we complicate love, we put expectations on it that it doesn't need. The things we know of God apply to all of us, those in and out of relationship God. He doesn't make it harder for anyone just gives. So we are offered this gift of love. To not just be these graced recipients but active participants in love. We get to love people. We get to love every person, but sometimes it just feels like the hardest thing to do. Jesus makes the commandment simple for us so maybe the way we make it simple is to first know Him and let the rest flow from there. And if we really know Him, we can love others better. #salesians #donbosco #stjohnbosco

Good Shepherd Sunday Jesus tell us clearly, I know them. We are known and wanted by the God that saves us. And because He knows us, He has gone the extra mile placing people in our lives that help us to follow Him even better. Some of those are the religious priest, brothers and sisters in our lives that make it so we can have this beautifully imperfect example of how to give our life to the one that saves us. ... And we celebrate our mothers, working closely with God to mold and form life both physically and spiritually. Maybe our first personal shepherds, they have helped us become people who can respond to the voice of God that calls us His. Lord don’t let us hide from you, we are your people, the sheep of your flock. Amen. #goodshepherd #mothersday #salesian #salesianos #donbosco

As we continueon a theme of refraining from judging others, we moveto the importance of respecting others. The saying "you never know what someone is going through" is always more accurate than we expect. This meanstreating people with kindness is never wasted. Think back to your own experienceswe usually remember how we are treated and how those around usserveothers. Wouldn't it be nice to be known as the kind friend, the listener, andthe respectful friend? It isdefi...nitelythe more difficultofroads. Refraining from commenting or allowing a vent session to bubble over into being mean is a thin line, but it is one we can work on every day. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Approach each situation hoping people are going in with the samesharedgood intentions. Most of all, beopen to hearing people for what they are really saying. Sometimes you have to siftthrough the surfaceto get to the authenticselves created and shaped by God. #salesian #donbosco #salesianos #popefrancis #stjohnbosco #catholic

Today’s Gospel shows us why Jesus had to become a missionary to live out His mission. In His home of Nazareth, He was rejected, doubted, questioned, and not taken seriously. Why was Jesus marginalized by His own community? We face similar struggles today. You see someone you know change in front of you and maybe you doubt their authenticity. Perhaps you catch a glimpse of see someone achieving their dreams and you want to brush aside their hard work. Would you rather they lea...ve you, removing you from their lives? Would it not be easier to look at yourself first, then change with them and support their cause? What could have happened if Jesus’ community didn’t reject and doubt Him, but lifted Him up, supported, listened to, and cared for Him? We cannot be the ones pushing people to the margins because they are changing or speaking about something that makes us uncomfortable. Instead, let us be more welcoming and supportive so we have a community to lean on when it is our turn. Lord, may you remove our need to judge. Make us more understanding and generous to those living out Your call in their lives. Amen. #salesian #donbosco #salesianos #popefrancis #stjohnbosco #catholic
