Ring around the ROVER! Grab a friend and their dog and give it a try! Here’s some things to consider.. You’ll want to have the basics down first- sit with distance, duration, and smaller distractions. To build focus, reward only when your dog gives eye contact If your dog fails (moves out of sit) when the other dog circles, try giving more space at first ie. bigger circles. If your dog fails when the other dog walks behind, have the other dog walk in front and on the... sides at first and continue rewarding your dog for staying seated and giving eye contact. If your dog is nervous, you stay calm and confident and don’t overwhelm them with praise. Remember YOU’RE in charge and you’ve got it all under control! Once they’ve relaxed a bit you can start to give more praise. Of you have a dog aggressive/reactive dog and/or you don’t think you can handle thisthat’s okay! You can totally start off with other distractions like people the dog knows, and at bigger distances (circling 100 feet away), or start inside doing the circling yourself. Have fun!!
