Saugerties Yoga 09.01.2021

How are you feeling after this week? Maybe you feel unsteady, unsure of what to do next to make a difference, or fluctuating between emotions. Maybe you don't feel anything. For me, events like those this week remind me to take a pause and look at my actions. What can I do to make this world a truly better place? Then listening to the answer and seeing if I'm on that path or not.... Sometimes, we have to switch our approach. We may need to do more, or do differently. If you're asking these questions, or feeling uneasy, Saturday's 9am class is for you. We'll be focused on relaxing, releasing, and equally important strengthening our bodies and minds for what's to come. Want to come but can't swing the drop-in fee? Just message us and we'll send you the link for this week. Photo by @megancardonephoto

EARLY BIRD RATES AVAILABLE UNTIL 12/22! Yoga is a powerful practice, allowing us to improve our health, strength and flexibility while increasing our sense of peace. You probably experience this regularly as a yogi yourself! What you might not know is that for people on the autism spectrum, yoga is an even more powerful practice.... In addition to the benefits typically associated with yoga, autistic individuals also experience a reduction of pain, anxiety, aggression, obsessive behaviors, and self-stimulatory activities with consistent yoga. They frequently also have greater success making new friends and regulating emotions. But while yoga frequently empowers people on the spectrum, there is a way to teach it safely that doesn’t harm or create overwhelm. In fact, while many yoga postures and breathing exercises are helpful and grounding to people in the autism community, there are others poses that should be avoided. If not appropriately taught, certain yoga postures and breathing techniques can be overstimulating, thus creating harmful results physically, mentally and emotionally for those on the spectrum. Knowing the skills to effectively provide yoga to each individual on the autism spectrumwho each have their own unique responses, abilities, and historyrequires scientific and yogic knowledge, along with empathy and patience. That knowledge and skill is carefully broken down, step-by-step and pose-by-pose throughout a new program we’re happy to support: Yoga for Autism. All proceeds will be donated to @ashrams4autism, which is dedicated to providing yoga in schools and facilities for the autism and special needs communities. It's the start of the new week and the new moon. There's a magic about beginnings and all the potential they bring. But sometimes it can be challenging to start those beginnings. It's scary. It's messy and complicated. And we're all a bit messy and complicated and afraid as well when stepping into the unknown.... The true magic happens from moving forward, showing up, even with that fear. What's on your list for the week? Where do you feel a bit of fear? Notice that and see how you can step into it. What support or help do you need to do that safely? No surprise here, but for us yoga is one of the best tools to work through that fear and into inspired action. Monday Schedule: 9am with Anna (75 minutes) Tuesday Schedule: 6am and 6pm flow with Sarah 8am meditation with Sarah

Take a moment to relax this evening with a gratitude practice and gentle yoga.

Saugerties Yoga 07.11.2020

What are you grateful for at this moment? Taking time, even 30 seconds, each morning before you start your day to practice gratitude is such a gift for yourself, and those you interact with throughout the day. Wherever you read this, I invite you take a few moments for this simple practice: 1. Close your eyes, or at least allow them to rise up and leave your phone 2. Take 3 deep breaths... 3. Start listing in your mind all of the things you're grateful for Step 3 is the hard part. Sometimes it's hard to get the gratitude ball rolling. If that's the case for you today, start small. Consider the weather. Check in with your body. Open your eyes and look around you. Sometimes when I'm doing this practice on a rough day I'll start with a simple truth I can always count on. For me, it's that "my mom loves me." After you say the first thing, other things you're grateful for will start rising. If they don't? Just keep breathing and repeating the one or two that do come to mind. Let me know below what came up for you today! If you want to practice a free gratitude meditation, I'd like to invite you to join me for a wonderful holiday marketplace that @samanthazee is hosting today. I'll be joined by a host of beautiful people and small businesses with their holiday offerings. The action starts today at 3, and I'll be leading a free meditation at 7pm taking you deeper into your gratitude practice. Stay for a free yoga class with @gabriellaeve_yoga at 7:30. Some of you will recognize her from taking classes at our studio, she has a beautiful practice and is a truly gifted teacher! Connecting & Exploring Body, Mind & Spirt Yoga is a unique tool that allows us to dive deep and discover new layers of ourselves and others. Join Tiffany (Lila) for a special workshop Sunday's in December: Yoga & Our Sacred Trinity In this workshop we will dive into our sacred trinity - our body, mind and spirit. We will learn how they connect and how we can use yoga as a tool to better understand and develop each part of ourselves.... Each of the four classes, meeting live each Sunday at 11:00am eastern time, will start with a yoga flow, with the intention and focus being on the specific part of the Trinity that we will be expanding on that day. We will then discuss and practice techniques to help us dive into the various components of our Sacred Trinity. On the last day, we will tie all three together and briefly discuss Ayurveda, as this ancient Indian medicine incorporates all three aspects, with the goal of balancing our body for optimal health. Can't attend live? All classes will be uploaded to watch at your convenience. Learn more here: https://saugertiesyoga.newzenler.com//yoga-our-sacred-trin

One thing is certain, we are stronger together. Today is #GivingTuesday and we'd like to highlight two of our non-profit partners that we support throughout the year, @ashrams4autism and the Saugerties Boys & Girls Club. Both of these organizations are doing amazing things, and even more in the face of the demands of 2020. If you are inspired, we invite you to donate to one or both of these organizations.... Ashrams for Autism is currently raising scholarship funds for their January Yoga for Autism training. We're helping to host that and we have several studio students who are attending. These scholarships will make it possible to bring the power of yoga to more people in the autism community. Visit the link below for their donation link. We have two opportunities to support Boys & Girls Club: 1. Join Kelli for our First Friday community class. It is by donation and all donations go to the Boys & Girls Club of Saugerties. 2. Or DM us here or Kelli directly to participate in this year's gift-giving opportunity to help bring the holidays to a local family in need. Sending you all love and gratitude at the start of this holiday season. Ashrams for Autism website for donations: https://www.ashrams4autism.org

#FlashbackFriday to when it was still warm enough to wear tank tops outside! Whether you're hitting the internet scouring for #BlackFriday deals, enjoying a relaxing day off, or back to work this Friday take a time to remember a bit of joy this past summer brought you. Big or small, and reach out to the people you enjoyed it with to remind them as well. Was it a moment by yourself? Take a moment to honor that and thank yourself for taking time.... And either way, think about how you can bring in a moment of similar joy as the days grow colder. Something I'm thinking of? Snow yoga! Let me know if you'd be up for some outdoor yoga despite the cooler weather this winter! It's a great day to pick up some snow gear after all... Join us today for a special live yoga class at 9am, with $10 from class going @ashrams4autism's January Yoga for Autism scholarship fund that we're hosting. What’s not to love about a day focused on gratitude? While this Thanksgiving is different for many of us, and likely more virtual, I’m always down for another opportunity to honor the beauty and blessings in everyday life. Even with COVID. There's a trick to expressing gratitude. Well many, I'm sure, but my favorite is to take a few minutes to write down everything I'm grateful for, big and small. And then from that list pick the one thing that's really calling to you.... Take some time to go deep into that one thing you're grateful for and write down 3-4 sentences why you're grateful for it. Go deep! And then repeat with as many different things as possible. I'll god first with an example: I'm grateful for so many things: my family, my friends, Zoom for keeping us connected and @athleta face masks for supporting my runs and keeping my glasses unlogged. But what I'm most grateful for today is all of you. I'm grateful for you continuing to practice online and outside, for being brave enough to (mostly!) do Zoom with the camera on, for responding to me emails, and texting to say hi and connected. I'm grateful that you have continued to prioritize your self-care in these wild times, and through that commitment have encouraged me to double-down on my own self-care on days I forget it. Thank you all for being a part of this community! Tell me, what are you grateful for? And if you'd like to go deeper in this, I've made a worksheet for you to dive deep. Or join us for our live yoga today and tomorrow at 9am where we'll explore gratitude and connection. $10 of each class will go to @ashram4autism's Yoga for Autism scholarship fund. Gratitude is a bit like this. It's the ability to look at our beautiful, but messy and imperfect, lives and see the good. Honor and thank the good. But it's also what gives us the ability and strength to keep moving forward and working for what we want to accomplish next. So today take a moment to be happy. For all those things and relationships that bring you joy, stability, and peace. And then take a few moments to dream and make action towards your intentions and goals.... Let us know, what are you happy for? And what are you working towards next? Schedule for today: 7:30am Vinyasa with Kelli Remember on Thanksgiving and Friday we only have one class each: 9am with Sarah for a special 75 minute class, Gratitude & Connection

One thing is clear, Thanksgiving will look very different for many of us this year! Sarah recently shared with the Poughkepsie Journal how she'll be spending Thanksgiving this year, and the silver-lining in it. HINT: I have so much gratitude to still offering a class to all of you at 9am, while being able to see my grandmother and mom later in the day! Let us know, what are you up to for the holiday? And remember, we'd love to have you for and your household for yoga at 9am T...hursday and Friday! However you spend this week, be sure to take some time for yourself. Be it a walk, meditation, cooking a favorite side dish, or (of course) a few sun salutations. https://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com//covid-tha/6262539002/
