Yeap you heard it -or maybe you didn’t but now you know! After 6 months we are now legally able to work again! I’m in shock still because the lack of response i received from NY state & governor Cuomo had me feeling frustrated and angry. I spend so much time trying to get answers. What i learned was I’m not in this alone. My struggle wasn’t just mine. My industry as a whole was being ignored! I’m so proud that as a collective we were heard and didn’t give up This isn’t just o...ur personal livelihoods we were fighting for. This was for our industry and all our business, no matter what size, to be recognized Thank you to @sofiepavitt @georgialouisesk @heydayskincare @rachelista @glowbar @rescuespa @facehaus @silvermirrorfacialbar As well every single one of you who took the time to send a email and sign petitions to our lovely governor. Now that we have your attention Our estheticians need you. While facial salons and spas are closed, our estheticians remain out of jobs. This is a labor force that has invested 600+ hours and tuition into training for a license to perform their job. And yet, they no longer can perform their job, while those with medical degrees now can.... Our businesses need you. Facial salons and spas are predominantly female-owned, small businesses. Many have one location, with no online presence every day that our businesses remain closed, we are losing the chance to survive this pandemic. Our industry needs you. Facials are done in a controllable, safe environment think: low traffic, one-to-one interactions and long standing sanitation practices. All other industries that are rooted in controllable, safe environments (ranging from dentists to barber shops) are open, with some even deemed ‘essential’ while ours has been entirely overlooked. Why? Because there is inconsistent decision making, and as a small, predominantly female-owned sector with a niche labor force, we face the brunt of it. We can’t fight this alone. #whycantiwork No really- i want to know why i and so many estheticians can’t work!?!?!? Today is phase 3 in NYC which means personal care is allowed to reopen but if you read the guidelines facial and face massage is prohibited. This has made SB SKIN and so many estheticians phaseless. Our livelihood has been put on hold with no answers. As licensed NY state estheticians we follow already strict guidelines to keep clients and staff safe, these measures are implemented way be...fore Covid. With the circumstances of the virus we are all in overdrive in sanitation and safety in our work place even with us not being open yet. I found these pics of me with my daughter in my office from March. At the time i didn’t know we would be closed indefinitely. SB SKIN isn’t just my job. It’s my first baby, everyone that steps through my door is family, it’s my home and i miss you all. People who choose this profession come from a place of love. We nurture our clients, we do what we do to make people feel good. It’s more then beauty. The skin is our largest organ and it hold so much emotion. Our touch isn’t just hands on someone’s face it goes deeper then that. I don’t know what the future of my business holds with not being able to reopen and our doors being closed now going on 5 months but i will continue to try and get answers.
