What a great resource in our community!
We may not fully see the consequences of what has happened to our littlest, most fragile humans in the wake of the pandemic, but we will in the future. Read on to see why our #KidsCantWait "In the first few years of life, children’s brains are developing rapidly, setting the stage for all future learning. As such, when a child has a developmental delay or disability, these early years provide a critical window of opportunity to intervene and help ensure children reach their f...ull potential. While the full consequences of a global pandemic coinciding with this period in a child’s life remain unknown, there have already been alarming repercussions for the youngest New Yorkers..." https://www.advocatesforchildren.org//delayed_intervention
This issue is near and dear to our hearts here at Step by Step! Please take a moment to help us advocate for support for these critical services! Early Intervention provides life-changing services for children with disabilities/developmental delays and their families. Yet too many families have lost services because of COVID. Take Action to urge state leaders to support EI. https://thechildrensagenda.org/send-a-message-kids-cant-wa/ #KidsCantWait
Please take a moment to tell state leaders that Early Intervention needs more support, not cuts! We're all looking forward to getting back to normal in 2021. But for children and families who missed out on Early Intervention sessions during the pandemic, hard work and catch-up sessions will be necessary. Our #kidscantwait! To sign the petition, go to https://thechildrensagenda.org/send-a-message-kids-cant-wa/
Good, bad, or indifferent let’s inform the organization that operates Early Intervention at the state level know how services are going for your child. They can’t change things they don’t know need to be changed. This is your chance to be heard!! #KidsCantWait #EarlyChildhoodDevelopmentalServices #EI&PSEinNYS
HEY FAMILIES!!! They say a picture is worth 1,000 words. Past and present recipients of Early Intervention or Preschool Special Education services POST A SELFIE, alone or with you or with your whole family, and let legislators see the faces these services impact. #KidsCantWait #EarlyChildhoodDevelopmentalServices #EI&PSEinNYS
REJECT the proposed funding cuts to Early Intervention proposed by Governor Cuomo in the Executive Budget. Instead, invest more into Early Intervention by asking private health insurance companies to pay their fair share. https://thechildrensagenda.org/kcw21/ #KidsCantWait #EI&PSEinNYS #EarlyChildhoodDevelopmentalServices

Today is the first day of "Kids Can't Wait" Awareness Week! Many families in need of services for their children are unaware that these programs exist. Like our post if you or anyone you know has a child receiving Early Intervention or Preschool services! #KidsCantWait #EarlyChildhoodDevelopmentalServices #EI&PSEinNYS
Today marks the beginning of Feeding Tube Awareness Week! Please share a photo of your adorable tubie hero and help promote awareness! At Step by Step, we work with many infants and children requiring tube feedings for a variety of reasons and want to celebrate all the amazing families we have met along their feeding journey. #feedingtubeawareness #feedingtherapy #specialneedsparents
The number of children enrolled in Early Intervention services fell by 12% statewide during the pandemic. For kids still enrolled, services delivered fell by 29%. NYS must Act Now to reverse these trends. #KidsCantWait
Have you heard of feeding therapy for infants? Feeding specialists (speech pathologists or occupational therapists) who have additional training in the area of pediatric feeding difficulties and can support you and your baby with a variety of challenges. Whether you are breast- or bottle-feeding, there are many reasons why your baby may have difficulty including anatomical or structural differences (including tongue tie), incoordinated sucking skills, poor state regulation, p...ositioning challenges, or medical roadblocks (reflux, milk intolerance, etc) which all impact feeding. A feeding specialist will take a comprehensive look at all components of feeding and provide you with a specific treatment plan individualized based on your baby’s needs. Our team of feeding specialists at Step by Step Pediatric Therapy Services are here to support all families in the Rochester area. Spread the word! #feedingtherapy #rocmom #feedingbaby #rocmomma #rocmomlife #rochesterwellness #breastfeeding #bottlefeeding #newparents

Have you ever wondered what your toddler should be doing while coloring or drawing? Here are some age ranges for different coloring skills!
We love puzzles for a number of reasons. They help kiddos develop fine motor skills , problem solving, hand eye coordination, and spatial concepts, to name a few of the benefits. As physical therapists, we often incorporate puzzles into other activities such as obstacle courses. Adding a close-ended activity like a puzzle to an obstacle course can motivate kiddos to complete more repetitions, building their endurance. Swipe through to see some other ways to expand puzzle play! Let us know if you have other ways that you play with puzzles We’d love to hear!
Such a fun idea to work on sensory needs, fine motor, gross motor, and language! Share with us the fun thing your kids find! Extra points for getting messy with this!

So many of us a balancing the work/home life right now and we acknowledge it is hard. This is a great article talking about promoting independent play and how it can make for more productive work time for parents! When trying to teach your toddler how to engage in more independent play reach for those toys that allow for creativity and exploring. Ex. Blocks, kitchen sets, tea sets, dress up, or dolls. https://www.npr.org//kids-know-how-to-occupy-themselves-we
