Juneteenth, which marks the emancipation of the last remaining enslaved African Americans, is a critically important day in United States history. On November 21st we held our FIRST Literacy Book Drive in collaboration with Hofstra's Black/Hispanic Alumni Association (BHAA) and the Selective Corporate Internship Program (SCIP)! We were able to donate 849 books to @thebookfairires and 132 books to @booksbehindbars! We're also proud of the fact that we were able to distribute free books to kids in the Hempstead neighborhood as well. We are happy to share that over a 1000 books were donated! Thank you to all our donors as well as everyone who volunteered to collect, sanitize, distribute and pack the books. Your help made our first literacy drive a great success! Special shoutout to the Union Baptist Church and Pastor Rev. Sedgwick Easley for allowing us to use their space. We couldn’t have done this without you!

The Selective Corporate Internship Program would like to present our very own global young leaders in our Fellows Program. They work extremely hard and are always looking for new opportunities in corporate America! Introducing our first spotlight Grace is one of the SCIP advisors who focuses on digital marketing and social media coordinating. She's created a lot of the visuals for SCIP as well as some recent projects with EWC. She hopes to work in the fashion, beauty, or music industry as a marketing strategist or social media coordinator. "I was given the opportunity to be a leader, and because of that, I have become more confident in myself and my skills."

We'd like to thank Clarins for collaborating with the SCIP Team for co-hosting such a successful virtual panel discussion. SCIP and Hofstra’s Black and Hispanic are cosponsoring a Book drive with the LEE (Liberation, education, and elevation) Book Club, hosted at the Union Baptist Church, in order to gather books for donation to the following three organizations: Reading Reflections, Books Through Bars, Books Fairies. Upon the end of the donation period, volunteers will dissemble set up, and books will be packaged and prepared to be dropped off at their respective drop-off points. If there are individuals who wish to donate books but cannot make the hours, please contact me and I will arrange to pick up the books this week.

For those who were planning on sending in their absentee ballots, we highly recommend that you drop it off IN PERSON at your nearest voting sites to make sure you get your votes in on time. The post office is reporting delays nationwide.
