SCK partner, Robert Schalk and associate, George Michel, won the acquittal of a Nassau County man wrongfully accused of Animal Cruelty, on September 16th, 2019. The jury returned their acquittal after a contentious two week trial in Hempstead. The accused, Peter Tsadilas, was charged with failing to provide sustenance and proper Veterinary care to his 8 year old yellow lab, Callie. Despite the claims by the Nassau County SPCA, after a thorough investigation by his defense t...eam, evidence was presented to the jury that Mr. Tsadilas had continuously fed, treated, and cared for his dog. Additionally, four months after his arrest, Callie had emergency surgery to remove an ovarian tumor that all experts agreed he would have had no knowledge of and it would affect his dog’s weight and appearance. Mr. Tsadilas is appreciative of the jury’s efforts in carefully reviewing the case and law he was charged with violating. The conviction rate for person’s charged with Animal Cruelty crimes in Nassau County was 100% in 2018, however, not every person charged with such a crime is guilty.
