Hey #SEOFamily, Meet Dillon Turner! Dillon joined our growing team in January of this year as our Data Assistant, working with the SEO Scholars, College team. Before he joined our family, he worked as a Research Assistant at Hudson Financial Group. Dillon earned his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Binghamton University, where he majored in Economic Policy Analysis. Outside of his work with SEO, Dillon has a variety of hobbies, including exercising at the gym (when it’s safe!), hiking, reading, playing games, and this year, helping out local elections boards for the first time. My favorite part of the job is helping SEO achieve its mission to serve underserved and underrepresented students, so they can have plenty of fruitful opportunities in the future after they graduate. #SeizingEveryOpportunity #FacesOfSEO #SEOScholars

SEO and the young people we serve continue to be empowered by the support we’re receiving from our ever-growing #SEOFamily. Since March 2020, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming four new members to SEO’s Board of Directors: Orlando Bravo, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Thoma Bravo; Maya Chorengel, Co-Managing Partner of The Rise Fund at TPG; Hythem T. El-Nazer, Managing Director at TA Associates; and Julian C. Salisbury, Global Head of Merchant Banking at Goldman Sachs.... We know these individuals share our passion for propelling human potential and closing the opportunity gap for underrepresented and underserved young people around the nation. We look forward to their leadership in continuing to advance our mission each day, in everything we do, with every step we take. #SeizingEveryOpportunity

We can’t wait to celebrate this year’s honoree Kenneth Lin in just a few hours! In 2007, Ken founded Credit Karma to improve financial access and provide free credit scores to Americans. Today, Credit Karma has over 100 million members and is changing financial services and increasing accessibility in particular for communities that have been excluded. #ChangeMaker #SocialImpact #SEOAchievementBenefit #SeizingEveryOpportunity

Happy #FacesOfSEO day, team! Today, we have the pleasure of meeting Michael Thoms, Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction for our SEO Scholars program in New York City! Michael joined our #SEOFamily in 2013 as a math instructor while also in a doctoral program for Math Education at New York University and working as a curriculum developer for Khan Academy! Prior to his work with SEO, Michael taught math for two years at the High School for Youth and Community Develop...ment at Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn and was a Peace Corps volunteer in Mauritania and South Africa. Michael earned his Associate Degree from Deep Springs College, his Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture from University of Wisconsin-Madison, his Masters in Math Education from Brooklyn College, and his Ph.D. in Math Education from New York University. I enjoy working for an organization with a mission that I believe in, that has an eye towards continuous improvement and expansion, and that works hard to support us in this important work. #SEOScholars #SeizingEveryOpportunity

For 50+ years, SEO has worked to ensure opportunity is available to all, including thousands of Hispanic/Latinx students and young professionals who have participated in SEO programs. We are proud to honor the history, culture, and accomplishments of the Hispanic/Latinx community. The Hispanic/Latinx community has suffered disproportionately from COVID-19. Institutional racism and systemic inequity have prevented many members of these communities from fully participating in t...he promise of America, including limiting access to affordable healthcare, opportunities for economic mobility, and pathways for career advancement. Appalling anti-immigrant agendas and sentiments continue to force too many Hispanic/Latinx Americans to live in fear and uncertainty, including hundreds of thousands of DREAMers. Yet, the Hispanic/Latinx community contributes to the fabric of our nation every day, in every way. They deserve allies who value their contributions and are committed to breaking down the barriers that have stood for far too long. SEO will never stop working to open the doors of opportunity to all. Happy Saturday, #SEOFamily! This #FacesOfSEO post is all about Tatiana Garcia, Recruitment and Admissions Program Manager for our SEO Scholars program, working with public high school students across New York City. Tatiana joined our team in January of this year, having previously worked as the Dean of Students at a Charter School in New York City. Tatiana earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, majoring in Family, Youth, and Community Science, and minori...ng in Education and Nonprofit Organizational Leadership. My favorite part of my job is forming relationships with SEO Scholars and talking through life with them. As I always say, being a teenager is one of the most complex stages in life they have to give energy and time to school, family, friends, sports, extra-curricular activities, and for some, even jobs, all while experiencing their growth and trying to find who they are, their likes, and their goals. Just having conversations, providing different perspectives, and hearing their stories is always an empowering experience. #SeizingEveryOpportunity #SEOScholars

There are only 32 days until #ElectionDay! SEO strongly supports the civic engagement of our #SEOFamily. As we know, voter suppression continues in this election cycle to be a significant issue, which disproportionately impacts communities of color. We’re sharing some non-partisan resources that may be useful as you work within your communities to support and protect the right to vote: Penn State University has collaborated to create the non-profit We Vote By Mail providing... a one-stop place for voter registration and requests for mail ballots. Learn more here: http://bit.ly/WeVoteByMail The American Bar Association has collected information on how to help protect elections. Read it here: http://bit.ly/ABAVote Every vote matters. Make sure your voice is heard by voting.

The ongoing pandemic meant that we could not gather this summer to celebrate a monumental milestone like we normally do. But that doesn't mean we don't celebrate this win! This summer, more than 100 SEO Scholars earned their undergraduate degrees, overcoming unforeseen obstacles and unprecedented crises along the way. We are so incredibly proud of them, and we can't wait to see what they do next.
