Some personal news. SERVPRO recently celebrated a major milestone adding its 2000th franchise. It's taken 53 years to build the franchise system and we're thrilled to have taken part in it.

We've consulted our crystal ball, read our tea leaves and called our psychic. None of that worked, so we consulted about a decade's worth of regional SERVPRO data and found out the answer to a simple question: what will go wrong in May? Today on Breakfast With Disaster, we reveal the answer. Fair warning: the problem might be coming from inside your house.

On Sunday, it was nearly 80 degrees. On Wednesday, it might snow. This "weather whiplash" has become increasingly common here in Western New York. Is it just annoying, or does it have more serious consequences?... We'll dig into that question on Breakfast With Disaster.

This means a lot. The daughter of one of our production technicians had to dress up as an essential worker for The Red Ribbon Campaign - she chose to be a SERVPRO employee. We're honored. From medical professionals to grocery store clerks, we all owe so much to essential workers. ... Do you remember how scary and confusing those first few weeks of the pandemic were? How bewildered you felt the first time you saw someone walking around Wegmans in an N95? How all of a sudden, everything just stopped? Essential workers are the reason we made it through those first few weeks. In the face of an unknown and invisible enemy, they conquered their fears and went to work. Now that we've adjusted (somewhat) to this "new normal," it is shockingly easy to forget how terrifying those first few weeks were. But we should not let ourselves forget the bravery of the workers who saw the world falling apart and chose to hold it all together. We also can't forget that they're STILL holding it all together. COVID-19 is still out there and frontline workers are still on the front lines. We know this firsthand - we're doing more COVID-19 disinfecting than we ever have before. We help medical facilities proactively clean to protect their patients. We disinfect police stations overnight after confirmed exposures so they can come in the next morning to keep our communities safe. So yes - it means everything to us to be thought of "essential." In these times, there's no greater honor. Thank you, essential workers, for everything you do! P.S. If you don't know about Red Ribbon Week, it's an incredible drug use prevention program. You can learn more about it here: https://www.redribbon.org/about

Avoid disaster. New rugs are often treated with a chemical wash to brighten colors. If a chemical wash was too strong, it could loosen the dye and wash out. Pre-test a small area to avoid a big problem.

Today’s the day, insurance folks I’m holding my webinar, The 5 Reasons Why Your Insureds Kick You Out of Their Houses, at 1:30 PM. Confession: I really, really hate webinars. Most of them are thinly-veiled sales pitches and total wastes of time. This one will be different. I have nothing to sell I just wanted to share this JD Power data because I think it will help you to retain customers and make money.... After all, according to JD Power, if you can increase insurance customer retention by 5%, you can increase your profit by 25%. Spots are limited, but there’s still time to sign up. I hope to see you there. https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_uTaQFRUgTgOmWnkZIn10yQ - Dan

IF A GREASE FIRE STARTS: Cover the flames with a metal lid or cookie sheet. Leave the cover on until it has cooled. Turn off the heat source. If it’s small and manageable, pour baking soda or salt on it to smother the fire. As a last resort, spray the fire with a Class B dry chemical fire extinguisher.... Do not try to extinguish the fire with water. Do not attempt to move the pot or pan outside. Do not use flour, baking powder or other cooking powders that resemble baking soda or salt they have a different chemical makeup and will not react similarly. They will make the fire worse. See more
