French painter Elisee Maclet is best known for his street scenes of the Montmartre section of Paris beloved by many artists. Growing up as the son of a poor gardener in Southern France, he moved to Paris in 1906 but success did not come easy. To get by he toiled away at many odd jobs including decorating floats for the Moulin Rouge, washing dishes, shucking oysters, cooking aboard a ship and even painting dolls which he exhibited in the Salon de Humoristes. When WWI broke out..., he worked as a medical attendant and used his leaves to return to Montmarte to continue painting. Once the war ended his career took off and he became admired by many French writers and art collectors. Eventually Maclet found himself back in the South of France in Arles from 1923 to 1928 where he painted many remarkable landscapes expressing his enchantment with Mediterranean nature and culture, some of which are at times reminiscent of Matisse. https://bit.ly/30zrX8s #featuredartist #frenchpainters #impressionistpainting #impressionism #montmarte #paris #nyauction #onlineauction #virutalauction #maclet #frenchfriday #shapiroauctions LOT 121 ELISEE MACLET (FRENCH 1881-1962) Rue de Montmartre oil on canvas 50 x 65 cm (19 3/4 x 25 5/8 in.) One of New York City's most prominent and successful sculptors, Anna Hyatt Huntington had a natural affinity for animals and often spoke of her connection with their spirit and personalities. Besides studying formally at the Art Students League of New York with prominent sculptors such as Herman MacNeil and Gutzon Borglum, she also spent countless hours observing animals at zoos and circuses. Her early career often focused on the more wild and fierce such as jaguars, tigers,... and lions. https://bit.ly/2PeWeCR #artwork #auctionupdate #contemporaryart #contemporaryartist #contemporaryartwork #featuredartist #fineartfriday #modernart #nyauction #onlineauction #virutalauction #femaleartists #annahyatthuntington Lot 430 Descending Panther bronze 17.8 x 10.2 x 8 cm (7 x 4 x 3 1/8 in.)
