To all our Sherman Orthodontics Families, Due to the most recent recommendations from the CDC and the American Dental Association, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue in-office patient appointments indefinitely. As a locally owned small business in both the NYC & Long Island communities, we feel it is our social responsibility to do our part to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19 and to protect our patients, staff, and their families from inadvert...ent exposure. Dr. Sherman will soon start reaching out to every patient in active treatment, both over phone and FaceTime, to discuss your treatment moving forward. In the meantime, here are some general tips for our patients currently in treatment: -Patients Wearing Braces/Palate Expanders - The most important thing is ORAL HYGIENE MAINTENANCE. In order to prevent issues of tooth decay and white spots, we strongly encourage all of our patients to be brushing their teeth twice a day and rinsing daily with a fluoride-containing mouthwash. If you are currently wearing rubber bands, please continue doing so as previously instructed. If a parent has been instructed to turn a palate expander, please discontinue turning at this point so as not to overcorrect any issues. -Patients Wearing Invisalign - During this period, we will attempt to send you additional aligners thru UPS (assuming that they remain open) as best as we can. Please continue wearing your aligners on a full time basis. In the case that you have worn all of the aligners we’ve provided to you, and we cannot get you your additional aligners (due to limitations in mail/UPS), please continue wearing the final aligner you have on a nightly basis to maintain whatever correction we’ve achieved to this point. Should an orthodontic emergency arise for you/your child, please contact the office at 516-487-0660 and follow the prompts to be able to get in touch with Dr. Sherman directly. For non-orthodontic emergencies, please leave us a detailed message. Voicemails will be checked daily between 9am-5pm. We will continue to monitor developments with COVID-19 as it relates to our office status and will update you on any changes. We ask everyone to stay safe and stay healthy. Some parents have asked Isn’t my child too young for braces? At Sherman Orthodontics, we feel that in some patients, Phase I treatment can reduce the complexity of some orthodontic issues which improves the results when the patient is older. As an example, this patient had a #palateexpander and #upperbraces over a 15-month period. Sometimes our patients need more than orthodontic work. This is an example of our patient that recently finished his orthodontic treatment using #invisalign to correct the misalignment of his teeth. He then had his general dentist buildup his undersized teeth using #dentalbonding.
