We welcome Richard Thomas Henle to The Final Bow Documentary! Richard was born and raised and still residing in New York City. He writes about the closing of Shelter Studios: It was like losing a best friend, a family member, someone that had helped you grow as a person and artist but also helped you meet so many other great people" These words are what crossed my mind the morning I read that Shetler Studios was closing for good, May 6th was when the email came through. ... Richard Thomas Henle born and raised and still residing in New York City, I was always drawn to create and I was fortunate to find a place Like Shetler Studios way back in the later 1990's when I was helping someone with a film and then a few years later in 2003 as I embarked on my own projects. From that point till December 2019 I created close to 100 projects including my last 4 which were done at Shetlers Bridge Theatre. ALL of these projects were rehearsed at Shelters rehearsal studios. I felt as if SHETLER was ME, and I always felt that when I rehearsed and auditioned for my projects SHETLER was the only place I wanted to do that, I trusted it, it was very affordable and helpful to the independent artists but also the talent coming to Shetler to rehearse also trusted it, it was a safe place to do the work! In January 2020 we cast what I felt and all did our best one "LATEBAR" an amazing cast of talent in a wonderful different kind of story and it was an amazing thing those weeks rehearsing January through early March but as March went on we noticed the world and surroundings changing, a mystery virus was coming or actually had been here. Our shows were supposed to be March 20-22nd 2020 and I am sure you can see what happened all would shut down, our final rehearsal was March 11th and we had a final meeting March 16th as we "postponed" because WHO KNEW what we were looking at. Well as I walked out of Shetler Monday March 16th I did not realize it would be for the last time, nor did I think that maybe I was the last "customer" they had. Since then we all know what has happened and what the arts in NYC look like, so many closures, so much loss, but these are not just BUILDINGS and spaces gone, these are people that meant so much to the fiber of what made NYC. I think we still have not realized the effects and losses, and I am not talking financial, I am talking people and creativity and creative spaces which had it not been for Shetler I never would have been able to do any of the things I did. So it is like losing a friend, a loved one, that is not an overstatement of its worth, it is a reality. Richard Thomas Henle August 2020

The Final Bow Documentary is pleased to have Mikki Hommel joining our documentary family with her amazing voice and stories to tell. Welcome Mikki! Being away from your home and loved ones is disorienting and disheartening. That is what sheltering in place because of Covid 19 has caused to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Mikki Hommel in singer/songwriter in NYC says this about Ron Shetler and Shetler Studios,... After my first lesson with Ron, I was a believer. It was like for the first time I understood how to not only use my voice but to free and trust it, in ways I never had before. I've been able to write and sing songs I would have never thought possible if it wasn't for my lessons with Ron. Ron has become so much more than just a voice teacher to me, he's become a mentor and a great friend. Mikki Hommel has been taking vocal lessons with Ron for the past 5 years. She has played The Gramercy Theater, Rockwood Music Hall, Webster Hall, Mercury Lounge and many other New York venues. She has opened for Eric Hutchinson and Dweezil Zappa. She has also gone on an international tour singing lead in Dweezil Zappa's band. Her album "On the Moon" was produced by Grammy winner- Dave Clauss. Her latest EP- "High on Life", is available everywhere with songs worked on with Ron. She has also written songs for fellow student and recording artist, Alla Ray. Mikki is currently living in NC (extending her stay due to COVID) but is looking forward to returning to the city in the future. In the meantime she can be seen streaming shows on her Instagram or for colleges and universities across the U.S on Zoom from her college agency- Neon Entertainment
