Suffolk County residents are being warned about recent deception scams during which people posed as utility workers in an attempt to commit burglaries. Earlier ...this week, a man posed as an employee for the Suffolk County Water Authority and asked a Lake Ronkonkoma homeowner to check the water meter in the basement while another man secretly entered the home. During another incident this month, a man claimed to work for a utility company and told a Sound Beach homeowner he needed access to the backyard. The victim later discovered cash had been stolen from the house and detectives believe a second person entered the home while the two was outside. Detectives are reminding people to take the following precautions: Do not allow uninvited repair/utility workers into your home. If someone claims to be at your home for an inspection or check, ask for identification and contact their company prior to allowing them into your home. Keep doors locked when possible to prevent anyone from entering your home. Call 911 immediately if someone attempts to enter your home or you suspect someone is attempting a deception burglary. If someone is attempting to offer a service, be sure to write down a description of the individuals and their vehicle. Older residents and those living alone are often targetedneighbors should keep in contact to ensure that these individuals are not victimized. If you believe you are a victim of this scam, contact 911 to make a report.

The Board of Directors and members of Shirley Community Ambulance remember the lives of our fellow brothers, sisters and civilians who gave the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. For many of our members, we remember this day vividly. For some, its one of the reasons why they volunteer today. 19 years have come and gone but we will never forget what happened.

Mastic NY- On the evening of Friday August 7th about 11:05 PM the Mastic Fire Department and Mastic Ambulance were activated a reported medical emergency on Flo...yd Rd North off Somerset. Chief Rudy Sunderman and Lieutenant Sunderman were the first 2 members on scene. On arrival they found high Co readings coming from the home and went to work to evacuate the residents from the home. They had found 1 person who was unconscious and were able to successfully drag the person out of the home to safety. When engine 5-12-2 got on scene the chief advised to make sure they were packed up, it was also requested that the crew bring in their meters as well as tools to vent the home such as fans. It was determined that the home had readings of around 2000 parts per million which is dangerously high this was due to the family using a Generator in the basement since a tropical storm had took down a tree and their power lines. Ems units from Mastic, Shirley and Mastic Beach Ambulance Companies set up a command/ rehab area. They also treated a total of 6 people from the home. 4 of the 6 home occupants were transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The remaining occupants refused transport. Firefighters from Mastic and Brookhaven FD along with their EMS partners operated on scene for about 2 hours venting and making sure the home was safe. The Brookhaven town fire marshal office and Suffolk Police 7th precinct were also on scene.
