So how does welding work? In all welding joint processes, heat is applied to or produced at the joint, and the heated surfaces are brought into close contact. As a result, the joint surfaces grow together into a single body.
A major development in the history of welding came in the first half of the 19th century, when Englishman Edmund Davy discovered acetylene (1836), enabling the use of open flames. This was important, as open flames enabled the manufacture of intricate metal tools and equipment.
There are many advantages of plasma welding. Here, the weld quality is excellent, with no root welding required. The arc is also stabilized in this process, making penetration extremely uniform.
From the Bronze Age up to the 19th century, the only type of welding that was used was forge welding, which was limited to soft metals. Beginning in the mid-1800s, technological advances and discoveries allowed more sophisticated techniques to evolve.
