It was a hero’s reunion yesterday. US Army Corporal, Daniel Elliot returned home from a 10-month deployment to Iraq and Kuwait to surprise his healthcare hero mom, Regina Elliot, RN, who’s been on the frontlines in the fight against COVID-19. Regina is a nurse in the hospital’s outpatient surgical center, but during the COVID-19 surge, she was redeployed to the coronavirus units to care for critically ill patients. Corporal Elliot has been overseas since the start of the pand...emic and attempted to surprise his mom, but mother’s intuition kicked in and sent Regina running into the arms of her son. Staten Island University Hospital recently went live with touchless thermal scanners for both employees and visitors at all of its hospital entrances at the North and South Sites. The scanners add a convenient, accurate and socially distant way to screen staff and visitors for abnormal body temperature upon entering the hospital. These new safety measures have been implemented at the North Site Main Entrance on Seaview Avenue, the hospital Team Entrance - North, the North Sit...e Emergency Room, the South Site Main Entrance, the South Site’s Diagnostic and Surgical Pavilion on Seguine Avenue and the South Site Emergency Room Entrance.
