PINTS FOR POLIO Skaneateles Rotary club members spread awareness of World Polio Day (and Rotary) during a four-hour stint outside at Skaneateles Brewery on Saturday, October 24. The brewery, with plenty of outdoor seating, drew a steady crowd all afternoon. Members hung posters and handed out fact sheets about the efforts to eradicate polio. The event was led by member Jay Stith.

Thank you to the outstanding team of volunteers who came together this past weekend to not only prepare the trail base, but then move, spread, and tamp yards an...d yards of stone dust to create an accessible route that connects the Backyard Wildlife Trail, the Harrison Loop, and the Faust Garden to help even more people in our community connect to nature! We are so grateful to Skaneateles Rotary, Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary, Marcellus NY Rotary, and Camillus Solvay Geddes Rotary Club for helping fund and install this project. What an incredible example of the power of community! Please pardon our mess as we put the finishing touches on the trail, and we look forward to installing new signage along the route in the spring and celebrating with everyone! See more

The Skaneateles Rotary Club will observe World Polio Day at a drop in event at Skaneateles Brewery from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Join us! Enjoy the Clucking Burger food truck (2-7 p.m.) and incidental music outside, while learning more about how Rotary has led the global effort to eradicate the crippling and deadly Polio virus. When Rotary and its partners formed there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. Today, we have reduced polio cases by 99.9 ...percent. Nearly 19 million people who would otherwise have been paralyzed are walking, and more than 1.5 million people are alive who would otherwise have died. The infrastructure to end polio is also being used to treat and prevent other diseases (including COVID-19) and create lasting impact in other areas of public health. We can #endpolio globally! Join with @Rotary on #WorldPolioDay on 24 October: endpol.io/wpd See more

World Polio Day - Oct 24 - One Day, One Focus, Ending Polio African region declared free of wild poliovirus The World Health Organization (WHO) on 25 August announced that transmission of the wild poliovirus has officially been stopped in all 47 countries of its African region. After decades of hard won gains in the region, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health. Bows to Honor our Volunteer Firemen (Rotary Fire & Water Tribute project) Volunteers turned out on Friday to assemble 200 Red & Blue bows to be displayed along the traditional annual parade route this Labor Day weekend honoring our Skaneateles Volunteer Fireman, as their Fireman's Day festival has been canceled due to the pandemic. The volunteers included Skaneateles Sunrise and Evening Rotarians & guests. Many hands made the task fun and easy, and was for a very good cause. Presidents Chris & Dave are asking all our members to reach out to their friends and neighbors and encourage them to make a donation to the cause by accessing the Labor Day weekend Rotary Fire & Water Tribute webpage at: https://www.supportsvfd.com

Rotary Fire & Water Tribute to Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department The Skaneateles Sunrise(SSRC) and Skaneateles (SRC) Rotary Clubs have joined together to pay tribute to our volunteer fire department. Due to the pandemic, the Fire Department (SVF) is unable to hold their annual Labor Day Firemen’s fundraising festival, which helps fund SVFD operations. The SSRC initiated an on-line fund raiser, coupled with Red & Blue bows, which will be displayed through out the town over Labor Day weekend. The SRC has joined them in this Roary Fire & Water Tribute.
