black history matters. each week we’ll highlight a few extraordinary, influential, black fitness heroes. pardon us as we fangirl the greatest Mohammed Ali was the leading heavyweight boxer of the 20th century, and he remains the only three-time lineal champion. he is the only fighter to have been ranked as the world's best heavyweight twelve times. as an all-around rockstar, outside the ring, he received two Grammy nominations. he also featured as an actor and writer, rele...asing two autobiographies. Ali retired from boxing in 1981. #bracketsforblackhistory

My [solidcore] journey began when I was preparing for my wedding 2 years ago. I told myself I would keep it up until the celebrations were over and I had to go back to my busy life. But I came to find, spending 50 minutes under the blue lights with an amazing group of people would serve as my physical, mental and emotional outlet for longer than I could have imagined. As a gynecologic oncologist, there can be some incredibly difficult days and I found myself seeking the escap...e of [solidcore] to push through and enhance not only my physical but my mental strength as well. Then came the pandemic! For those few months, I missed the studio more than ever but the coaches continued to inspire and encourage us through online platforms, despite their own difficult situations. with studios reopened, I have never felt safer with the measures incorporated into every location (trust me I was driving to 3 in 2 different states at the time)! I will always be grateful to the place and incredible coaches that got me through a wedding, a difficult but rewarding career, global pandemic, and now keeping me healthier than ever in my very first pregnancy. : @courtmia89, community member, philly

NYC, the time has come - senior master coach @bodybyjames_ is officially coaching in the big [solidcore] and this community have been a huge part of my life for over six years. When I took my first class I immediately fell in love - feeling challenged physically and mentally - anxious to come back again. As a collegiate athlete, this was the first time in years I really felt pushed to perform. As a coach, I think of class like an inspirational training opportunity - pushing... clients to get comfortable in the uncomfortable, encouraging them to dig deeper, reminding them that they are worthy of this time they are giving to themselves. I am sad to leave DC, which has been my home all my life and where I’ve built an incredible [community] that is more like family. But I am excited for this next chapter - to meet new people, to push the boundaries, and to discover what I am capable of. : @bodybyjames_, senior master coach, nyc

new studio alert welcoming our 70th studio! milwaukee, we are so excited to be under the blue lights with you, as our first new studio since march 2020! storytime. we were on track to open 33 new studios in 2020. but the world turned upside down, and at one point, all of our studios were closed. we faced several obstacles and had to make incredibly difficult decisions, just as many others in our [community] did. 2020 was exactly why many of us do [solidcore]. It trained us ...to remain [strong] when the going gets [tough]. 2021 is a year of [resilience]. we will focus on healing, rebuilding and reconnecting. we will be growing our new at-home offering with @variis and opening more brick and mortar locations mainly in the second half of the year. we are so excited to welcome our first new studio of 2021. boston- you’re next. : @coachdelany.m, studio manager, milwaukee

I am an ICU Nurse from NY. Since March, my brave co-workers and I have been in the trenches battling the pandemic. I can honestly say the spring months were the hardest of my life. When the quarantine restrictions were lifted, I knew I needed group fitness for motivation, and frankly because I found it a safer alternative to gyms. As a healthcare professional, it is important I protect myself and I always feel #safeandsolid while under the blue lights. I appreciate the strict use of masks, air filters, and generous space between clients. [solidcore] became a space for me to challenge myself physically and provides me with a needed break from stress. Thank you [solidcore] for giving me [strength] to care for others. @johnandstormy, ICU nurse

There are times in class when I know that clients want so badly to tap out, but I see them make the conscious decision to keep going. I’m inspired by our [community] because our people take challenges head-on, and I love leading and witnessing those moments as a coach. @sydneylo_, dallas coach
