We lost one of our own over the weekend. Dan Piotrowicz was a longtime member of South Buffalo Rugby, a solid player on the field, and a great friend to many. Even as his playing days waned, he was present on the sidelines and supported the club off the field. He was never in short supply of an interesting story or a topical discussion, and always knew how to get a laugh. For those who are interested, here is the information for his services. Rest easy, Dan. ... https://cannanfh.com//details/564/Daniel-Pi/obituary.html
Diversity. Equality. Justice. As Pride Month comes to a close, we reaffirm our commitment to learning to better support and celebrate all members of our extended rugby family, particularly our LGBTQ+ and BIPOC community.
Happy #pride ! On this day in New York history, was New York City's first ever Pride March June 28, 1970.
Forgive us if we’re a little late to the movement. We’ve had a lot to learn. South Buffalo Rugby will be donating to the NAACP Buffalo Branch and matching donations in total up to $500 through June 19. The NAACP continues the fight to end racial profiling and reform policing practices in Buffalo and in every state while keeping the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination. We as a community need them to continue this effort.... Donations can be made by a Venmo to: @southbuffalorugby. Join us. Because #BlackLivesMatter
Celebrating the diversity of our club for and continuing to stand in solidarity for Pride Month!
We stand together. #BlackLivesMatter
Player spotlight! Meet Joel everyone! Joel is a beast of a flanker, but played 8man in the fall season. ... He's played rugby for 3 years, all with us Joel loves the physical demands rugby encourages you to endure. It motivates him in his workouts and puts a precedent on his goals. Also, who doesn't love tackling? Joel's takeaways playing in South Buffalo is the sense of camaraderie. He's also learned a lot of drinking games. Fun fact: Joel is a first generation college graduate (Cornell University to be specific) , and is our zombie movie expert. His favorite quarantine activity is spending time with his 2 favorite people(see photo slides) Photo courtesy of @kimkrollphoto
Player spotlight! Meet Amy! Amy has been with South Buffalo for a few years now. One of our cool Canadians (you'll meet them all soon).... Her primary role on the pitch is flanker, hook, and being really great at tackling while holding a conversation at the same time. A skill not many can attain. She's played the best sport in the world since 2007, and was inspired by her father as he played too! Rugby has always been progressive having the same rules for men and women which made the sport inviting to her since there's not many female versions of sports that promote full contact. "I feel like I’ve really come into my own as a player while playing for South Buffalo. My confidence in my abilities and what I can bring to the team has really grown." Fun fact! Amy is missing a rib (It was an experimental surgery to fix her broken wrist a few years ago) Amy also crochet's. I guess the surgery worked! Photo courtesy of @kimkrollphoto
Player spotlight is back! We decided to check in on our players and learn more about them during this time of isolation. Meet Goose!... Goose is one of our newer props on the team. He plays with us because he likes being with a group of individuals who all work toward the same goal and the feeling of accomplishment it provides. Goose recognizes there's still room for him to learn more about rugby, and embraces learning something new everyday on the pitch. Fun fact about Goose is he's a musical theater fanatic. How has Goose passed the time? Relaxing with his wife of course! But he also chills with his dog Luna. Check in every Friday for a new player spotlight Photo courtesy of @kimkrollphoto From South Buffalo Rugby, we hope you all continue to stay safe and healthy. Many thanks again to all working the front lines. #rugby #southbuffalorugby #playerspotlight #rugbyplayers
Thank you to all first responders, doctors, nurses, medical staff, police, firefighters, postal & delivery, and all the essential workers out there who are on the front lines keeping the world safe and making it run.
It’s come to this.
