We were at the max in this labor room in terms of support people, but this mama made it clear she would not have it any other way. This mama warrior was so strong and courageous in the face of all the challenges that labor, birth and postpartum has put before her, and she forges on even when unsure about what the future will bring all the while loving and protecting her baby. If o...nly these babies could know now the incredible women they have cherishing and supporting them! From mothers to grandmothers, doulas to aunties! It is important to be reminded of the bounty of love we have in our families and communities. You are loved precious little one. Announcing a much overdue #welcomebabywednesday to sweet baby Philip and his adoring family! This birth reminded us midwives of what immense dedication and fortitude women and mothers are made of. It also reminded us how grateful we are for the safe option of surgical birth, i.e. c-section delivery, in this day and age. Because when it is *necessary*, it is life-changing for both mother & baby. Moving more towards a model of cesarean delivery that is more woman- and family-ce...ntered should be the goal of the larger obstetric community and profession because this too completely changes the experience for the family. Gentle or natural cesareans in which clear sterile drapes are used so parents can watch the birth as active participants, delayed cord clamping is performed, and mother and baby get to do early skin-to-skin in the OR are slowly gaining traction amongst hospitals, providers, and patients. We need to continue to PUSH for this type of respectfully inclusive care! All families deserve this option!
