Baby Shark doo doo doo doodoo.... What an amazing find by MA students from the @courtauld ! This sketch for a hand-painted blouse by Tina Leser features notes from the children's song "Baby Shark." Far from the K-Pop smash hit of recent years, the song dates back to at least the early 20th century as a campfire favorite and may trace its roots back to the traditional German children's song "Kleiner Hei." As evidenced by this blouse, the song has always been the ear worm it remains today! #fashion #fashionhistory #fashionsketch #tinaleser #40sfashion #babyshark #fitnyc #fitspecialcollections #fashioninstituteoftechnology #designarchives

George Barbier illustration from the book The Romance of Perfume, which notes the current (1928) state of the Grasse perfume industry as having "upwards of 50 distilleries of perfumes... 60,000 acres are given up in the cultivation of flowers, and these acres produce a yearly average of 2,640,000 pounds of roses, 3,300,000 pounds of orange-flowers, 2,200,00 pounds of jasmin, 220,000 pounds of tuberose. 25,000 pounds of roses are needed to produce one liter of essence, which is sold for from 2,000 to 2,500 francs." Some fancy currency conversion (one must remember the re-valuation of the French franc in 1960 when doing historic conversions!)... puts this this sum at just over $1,200 per liter today. #fashion #fashionhistory #georgebarbier #pochoir #perfume #perfumemaking #grasse
