SROL Ministry Spotlight 09.12.2020

Blessed are those who mourn, they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4 The funeral Mass is a source of hope and comfort. It is a reminder of God’s abiding love and mercy for us. The Ministers of Consolation are adult parishioners who desire to help those who are grieving. Ministers of Consolation serve as a team . One person tends to the family in greeting them as they enter the church, offer tissues, assist the readers as they walk up to the ambo, assist family with presentation of the gifts and serve as a Eucharistic Minister if needed. The second person of team is the Altar Server. The ministry is comprised of adults with availability to serve at a morning Mass of their choosing. If you are interested in training to become a Minister of Consolation please leave a message for Rita Gardini at the Rectory 516.798.4992/

The Family Liturgy Ministry here at St. Rose aims to supplement the environment of the 9:30AM Family Mass so that the faith of all family members can be shared, developed, and renewed. Through our efforts, we also hope to develop a true sense of community here at St. Rose. If you have ever attended the St. Rose 9:30AM Family Mass, you may be familiar with some of the things we do: On many Sundays, the priests and deacons invite the children up to the sanctuary to help with t...he homily. Giving children an opportunity to participate in a special way at Mass by reading petitions, bringing up the gifts, helping with the offertory collection, or handing out songs sheets and Mass booklets Hospitalities after Mass such as the Annual Family Mass Breakfast and Bagels ‘N Bingo that provide a great atmosphere to get to know your fellow parishioners a little more Special in-Mass blessings such as the annual school backpack blessing, the annual Baby Jesus nativity blessing, and recently baptized blessing Special Processions such as the Three Kings Epiphany procession and opening processions featuring First Holy Communion children Advent Angel Gift Collection the opportunity for our parish to help others by giving special Christmas presents to less fortunate people To keep up with future activities surrounding the Family Mass, look for details in the bulletin throughout the year or you can follow us on Facebook. Just like St. Rose Family Mass on Facebook. At this time, we are looking for additional parishioners to help us our efforts in Family Liturgy. You don't need any special experience to become a member of our committee. You just have to have a desire to grow in your faith, a willingness to give a little of your time and talents, and the spirit to work with others. To find out more about Family Liturgy, you can speak with any of our members each Sunday at the Family Mass or email the Family Liturgy ministry leaders (Matt & Kelly Baroletti, [email protected]). Becoming a member of Family Liturgy does not come with a weekly commitment. The Committee is divided into teams, and each team is assigned a few Sundays throughout the year. Periodic meetings are held to develop and share our plans within the committee. We need your support! Knowing that busy people always have time to help out and that many hands make light work, we ask you to consider joining our ministry.

The Music Ministry of St. Rose of Lima Parish includes a variety of ensembles and has been a vital part of the liturgical life of the Church for over 50 years. The Parish Choir was the first ensemble that began this ministry and initially developed under the leadership of Bill Kring in the late 1960’s. He continued leading this ministry as Director of Music for 30 years. Mr. Kring just celebrated his 91st birthday and is in good health. The Music Ministry serves the Parish an...d the community at large. John Buckel (Music Director & Organist) has been leading the music ministry for the past seven years along with our Principal Cantor, Matthew Bayen. The music ministry now includes multiple ensembles such as the Parish Choir (high school-mature adult), the Youth Chorale (boys & girls grades 3-8 and high school leaders), Junior Cantors (advanced youth chorale singers) and the Youth Bell Choir under the direction of Matthew Bayen (grades 5- highschool). We also have a contemporary ensemble that leads music for the 5:15pm every Sunday evening, under the leadership of vocalist/pianist Stephanie Muhs. Teenagers and young adults may audition with Stephanie if interested in volunteering their musical talents with the Life-Teen ensemble. Parish Choir a four-part, semi-professional mixed voice ensemble. Sings at the 11:00am Choir Mass September through June. Rehearses Thursday evenings from 8:00-9:00pm. Performs multiple sacred music concerts throughout the year. Some choral experience and a simple audition is required. Youth Chorale open to all boys and girls between grades 3 & 8 who have a passion for singing. Sings at the 9:30am Family liturgy Mass from September through June. Rehearses Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:10pm. Performs in multiple concerts throughout the year with the other choirs and participates in some community events also. Youth Bell Choir open to boys and girls between grades 5 and 12. It is encouraged that potential members of the bell choir spend at least one year with the youth chorale before-hand to become familiar with the songs and routine of the choirs during Mass. Rehearses Thursdays from 7:15-8:50pm and sings from September through June. Junior Cantors appointed by the music director. Advanced singers of the youth chorale and or members that are now in high school. Junior Cantors begin the 9:30am Family Mass from the cantor ambo and help to further engage congregational participation. New members are always welcomed to any of the ensembles of the music ministry. We pray together in word and in song, seeking to always enhance the liturgies of the parish and uplift the hearts of our parishioners.

We are presently in need of volunteers willing to share their faith with our parish children in Grades 1 through 8 and Special Education for both our home program, Tuesday program and Saturday program. Tuesday afternoon and Saturday morning classes are held in the school building. Becoming a catechist requires a serious commitment to the Church and the people of God. However, catechists say that the rewards they receive from the experience of sharing the faith of our Church w...ith our parish children blesses their life in abundance! Coordinators conduct a minimum of three catechist meetings for each grade level during the instructional year. All adults in our parish community are invited to become an integral part of the catechetical mission of our Church as a catechist. After an initial interview with one of our coordinators, applicants are required to complete a Background Check and Code of Conduct which is reviewed by our administrative office and submitted to our diocese. In addition, all catechists must attend a VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children live training session which is offered at St. Rose of Lima as well as throughout the Diocese of Rockville Centre. Compliance of this mandated program includes reading of online bulletins issued by the Virtus program several times each year. In addition, all new catechists must attend a New Catechist Training session prior to beginning the instructional year and submit a Catechist Commitment Agreement annually. Catechists must attend their instructional grade level meeting and have the option of either a day or evening session which is held in the Religious Formation meeting room located in Room 108 of our parish school. The attendance and progress of our students is monitored and recorded by the catechist. Any issues of concern are addressed with the coordinators of our program at which time parents are contacted.
