Stay-Focused

Diving means something different to us all at Stay-Focused, but to all of us; it’s equally important. Kicking off our new campaign is 2019 program alumna Julia Tanna! Julia hails from Illinois and just finished her first semester at Bates College in Maine. When I was asked if I wanted to learn how to scuba dive with other people with disabilities, I immediately said yes. I had no idea how the experience would impact my life. Stay-Focused gave me the ability to travel somewh...ere I never thought I would go, and meet some amazing people. Having the ability to be with others who have a disability is really special because we could just be ourselves. At the beginning, scuba diving proved to be harder than I thought, but I learned more about how to fight back against my anxieties and have fun. During the Stay-Focused trip, I felt more independent than ever before which gave me confidence for the future. See more

Back in November, our team sat down and tried to write a clear-cut answer to the (what we thought to be) very simple question: "What has the diving experience of Stay-Focused done for our participants?" We found- exceptionally quickly- that this was impossible to answer. This became an incredibly rich, thought provoking and brilliant conversation about the entirely unique experience Stay-Focused has been for not only ourselves, but every young individual with a disability who... has passed through our program. Leading into 2021, uncertain when exactly we will be back to diving in the bright blue waters of Cayman with our friends again; we're eager to share some of those answers with you all. To share what the experience, the confidence in disability, the friendships, the sensation of SCUBA, and the organization itself have meant to so many. We're setting out to eagerly try and answer our impossible question, and we can't wait for you all to see. - Team Stay-Focused

There is definitely something in the water this year for our Stay-Focused alum! Congrats to 2014 program alumna Alyssia Crook on her engagement. We wish her and her fiancé Charles all the best in their future together!

We learn a lot from Stay Focused leaders Ryan and Roger, but one of their most important lessons is there's never a wrong time for a Christmas sweater. Hope everyone is getting ready to sport their seasonal best this holiday!
